I am so confused about whether to start introducing solids to my 4 month old. My daughter is hungry all the time. She is eating every 2 hours during the day and still waking at least two times at night to eat. At some feedings, she will eat for 45 minutes.I was thinking giving her some solids might help since she is so hungry all the time. But, I don't want introducing solids to negatively affect my supply.I asked my pedi and she gave me the go-ahead to start rice cereal if I want to do so, but I don't know if it is a good idea to do it now or if I should wait until 6 months. Any advice?
Re: XP: Introducing solids to EBF baby
There's no need to wait until 6 months if she's ready sooner. I was hellbent on waiting and B's growth really suffered because of it. She dropped from 25th percentile at 4 months to 5th at six months.
I'd say try it and see how she does. I f she isn't ready, she'll make it obvious!
Thanks for the response! I was so determined to wait until 6 months as well. But, recently she has seemed so much hungrier than usual. Maybe it is because she is more active, but her appetite has increased dramatically!
Thank you! I appreciate the advice.
I would say go for it as well. We started solids last week b/c of DS being so hungry and he did great. I haven't seen a difference in his sleep schedule though. He still wakes once or twice to nurse. But he is now able to go longer b/t day time feedings.
Thanks everyone!
Mayoral04: My pedi said that if she does not take cereal the first time, wait a few days and then try again. Good luck!
If she's eating that often it sounds like she may be ready to give it a try. We started right at 4 months because of her being hungry way more often, and the fact that she was only 12 lbs.
Sometimes she'll eat a whole container now and my supply is exactly the same.
