Baptism luncheon

I personally would rather have the luncheon at one of our homes, but SIL prefers to have it at a restaurant, and I'm totally okay with that.  So, now we are looking for a location.  Any ideas?  The ceremony will be in So Miami, so preferably something somewhat nearby.

Thanks.

Re: Baptism luncheon

  • Any particular type of food you prefer? A few places...Havana Harry's, Trattoria Sole, Carraba's are in the area. Would you go to the Gables? There are many more options there...

  • south miami doesn't have too many options that i can think of.  there's trattoria de sol, that mexican restaurant near deli lane...

gables has a lot more options and isn't that far from south miami.  Is the baptism at St. Louis?

  • Gables is totally fine!  I just don't want to go too north or too west.  The ceremony is at Epiphany.

Nephew's reception was at Town, and totally perfect, but don't want to repeat that.  And the location must accommodate a LARGE group (65+).  I haven't gotten a headcount, but just from the top of my head... and that is just aunts/uncles/1st cousins, and close friends!  Good thing we are splitting everything.  : )

  • what about Les Halles?  You can rent the second floor of their restaurant for private functions.
  • What about Havana Harry's as she mentioned above?  That's not a bad idea at all!
  • if i'm not mistaken leshalles closed down not too long ago. John Martin's has a room for parties and the food is pretty good. Le Provencale holds events at times so they may also be able to accomodate your party. Cafe Vialetto in front of Coral Gables High is also very nice. Some of the other restaurants are nice but not sure about your budget. There is Anacapri if you like Italian too.

  • really?  we were just there a few months ago! that's a shame... i hate that i don't live in that neighborhood, we miss out on everything!
  • Les Halles did close down. Novecento in the gables is another good option.

  • I dont really have any other suggestions, but wanted to wish you good luck in all the planning.  BIL might be flying in from NYC next month so I am considering taking advantage and having her baptism that weekend, but IDK if that is too short notice.
  • Im not sure if its too far but Aero Squadren by the airport is delicious for lunch. I think for large parties they set up an area of the restaurant for you or you can rent the room.

  • thanks everyone!  we finally did a headount, and we have a total of 150 guests!  who the hell has 150 guests for a baptism... you can only imagine their wedding.  Anyway, we will be looking to all of the suggestions, but i think BIL is now convinced that a reception at a home w/ trays of ziti and salad is the most economical and will turn out great!  LOL

I think at home with baked ziti and salad is the best idea. More comfortable for everyone (including the boys) and definitely more economical!

  • Definitely a home event is better fr 150 people! ;) And baked ziti sounds mighty yummy. Not sure if you have plans on who to cater with but for Ethan's baptism we had Mario The Baker  - we ordered lasagna, baked ziti, chicken marsala - for a pretty good price and it was so good!!
