Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

How hard do diaper changes get?

I though I would ask the experts who have been through this. I have been wondering what diaper changes are going to be like when our DD gets older. She is 6 months now and I am just curious on what to expect. I can just picture what is to come. Tongue Tied ..Since its slow, let me here your all time experience

Re: How hard do diaper changes get?

  • Diaper changes are pure hell for me right now.  I feel like I'm wrestling a crocodile doing the death roll.

  • At times, it can be an olympic sport! lol

But I give him something to play with (i.e. A&D, a wipe, a diaper) and he is entertained for 30 seconds and I have to hurry up and change him in that time!  If I take longer, I may end up having to chase him across the room while he's half dressed!

  • I may be in the minority, but honestly they are easy for us.  DS isn't too much of a wiggler, we still change him on his dresser/changer w/o a problem.

Depends on the kid I guess.  If your LO is a wiggler now, once she's totaly mobile, you might be in for it!

  • Thats what I thought....and DD is a wiggler now and loves trying to pull and grab her diaper. Im going to be in for it, I can see it now
  • Very hard for us right now. I try to give DD a book or toy to look at while I'm changing her, but it only works about half the time. We hung the quilt from her nursery set above the changing table, and she wants to stand up and look at it.

Appreciate what you have right now. The other day, DH changed DD's diaper while she was standing up and facing away from him. Indifferent

  • They aren't a problem for me, but I guess every baby is different.

  • my ds will get upset as soon as he goes into the room w/the changing table. i have to have something naughty for him to hold (something he doesn't normally ever touch) or a toy that makes noise that he hasn't seen before. sometimes i will also give him a bottle to drink out of if it's that time. he's fiesty!

And forget about it being easy to dress him.

Us too!  I keep a supply of items he generally isn't allowed to play with at the change table and he gets to play with one while his diaper is changed ... it helps a little :)

    Pretty much.

  • Tonight at my nephew's bday party I had to wrestle DS into a new diaper.  He wanted to keep playing with Thomas.
  • I guess I'm lucky- I just give him something to hold and he's fine. He'll even lift his legs up so I can put the diaper on him. He also assists with dressing himself as well.
  • its hard for us most of the time and she had a tendancy to get her hands down there and poop on her fingers! it can get very challenging at time.
  • It is very hard...DS HATES it and gets super squirmy!  Some things I do are...if I have time I change him in spurts.  Take off clothes, clean him, let him run around naked for a bit.  Put diaper on, let him play.  Then get the rest of the clothes on a bit later.  He doesn't mind the 30 sec. or so each step takes, but he can't stand it when I do everything at once.

Before bed...the thing that works wonderfully, is I give him his toothbrush with a bit of toothpaste. He loves chewing/brushing his teeth so he'll let me change him while I do that!

  • 50/50

Sometimes DS is a breeze, and sometimes its very difficult.

I try to distract him with toys, etc. but in all honesty they don't work very well.  Sometimes he's just in a wriggly mood.

Sometimes I change him when he's standing playing with toys, and sometimes he lets me lie him down to change him.

  • For DD, they are very rarely hard.

For DS, they have been bad starting around 9-10 months and just get worse as he gets bigger/stronger- lots of screaming, rolling ,squirming away...it sucks. GL!

  • Also pure hell here.  It's like I'm wrestling an angry octopus who can scream louder than I ever imagined :(
