If you feed Elecare

Was your child better on Alimentum/Nutramigen, but not completely "fixed?" How did you know you needed to go to Elecare? Or did Ali/Nutra not help your LO at all, and that is how you knew?

  • I'm butting in even though I don't know much about Elecare (other than we had a child at a daycare I worked at who used it until he was nearly two).

    Love the snowman suit, DS had the same one :)

  • Isn't it hilarious??!! I busted it out at Xmas and DH's family could not stop taking pictures! Best $1 garage sale find! Too bad we can't get our boys together for a picture in their suits, that would be awesome!

  • omg, that would be sooo funny!!!!  my sister found the snowman at BRU last year for like $3 cause it was well after Christmas... we also got it out at family Christmas and everyone took pics!

    My sister and I made the mistake of letting my aunt take it for my cousin's baby for pics, and they took it to Florida with them (I'm in NH) and I still haven't seen it :(  My aunt says that if she knew we wanted it back then she wouldn't have let them borrow it.  Um, of course we want it back, its epic snowman suit.

  • ::lurking from 3-6::

    DD seemed to be better for about a week on Nutramigen, then slowly started getting worse again.  Fussy during/after eating, reflux was worse, very gassy, not sleeping well, etc.

    She happened to have a dirty diaper while we were at the pedi's office and they tested it for blood; it came up positive.  They gave us a can that day to start her on and after a week on it, she was a totally different baby.

    HTH!

    this is basically the same as us but we tried Alimentum. His diapers were completely watery and he would just cry all the time. Now he is so happy and hardy has gas. :::knocks on wood:::

  • Such a cute snow man costume!

     My LO was supposed to be a July baby but he had to be stubborn and didn't arrive until August!  Anyway, he has MFPI and I breastfed him, eliminating dairy/soy/tomatoes/eggs from my diet...some LOs do well on Alimentum and Nutramigen, but others can?t tolerate them because they still contain milk protein chains (just partially broken down). From what I?ve heard if you don?t notice your LOs improve on Alimentum or Nutramigen after at least a two week trial you may want to switch to an elemental formula, like EleCare or Neocate. Elemental formulas are the only formulas that are 100% hypoallergenic because they don?t contain any milk protein chains; instead they are made up of individual amino acids (the building blocks of protein) making them not only the safest but easiest formula for LOs with allergies to digest. Switching my LO to Neocate was our next step if he didn't resond to my elimination diet, but so far so good...now I just have to figure out feeding him solids!!  Anyway, let us know how things work out!
