Hi everyone! After reading about at home dopplers on The Bump, I caved and bought a Sonoline B 3Mgz on Amazon. I recieved it yesterday!!! Took a little bit to find the h/b but I found it! It was so great, because I haven't been to the docs for a few week, and not going back until 2/4. Anyway, I definitely only plan to use it a few times a week max between appt.'s so I can check on my LO, but was wondering if it is safe to use often? I wanted my Mom to hear the h/b tonight, but I already listened this morning, and I just want to be careful. Does anyone listen to theirs often? Have you heard about anything negative regarding these? I am asking on here, because if you google it-you will find it so I rather hear your opinions and experiences. Thanks!
Re: At home Dopplers-How often do you use yours?
All I could find was the gel too and those cheesy little headphone baby monitors that never work. I will search around a bit more. Thanks!
Here is what I found on Ebay

The technology behind dopplers is the exact same technology as that of an ultrasound machine - dopplers ARE mini-ultrasound machines without the screen - they use waves to measure blood flow and hence identify the heartbeat. That being said, dopplers are of much "lower" power than ultrasound machines. I've reviewed some of the literature on pubmed about safety of doppler machines - the long and short of it is that nobody knows and everyone keeps saying, "more studies need to be done". There is a theoretical risk that prolonged exposure could cause some problems in creating some heat in the fetus (especially around fetal bones in the second and third trimester) but none of it is proven.
So, i'm no help at all, sorry :-( I just wanted you to know what's out there. Talk to your doctor about it and see if they can can come up with some recommendations for you - maybe once or twice a week?
Thanks!
