Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

IKEA?

I've heard of the store, but I've never bought from them. I found a bed on their website for DS that I like, and its cheap.

Do they have good quality items? I don't want to bother if it's going to need to be replaced in a year

Re: IKEA?

  • The duo's cribs (now turned to toddler beds) are from Ikea and I LOVE them.  They've abused the hell out of them and they've held up really well, plus we've moved twice with them, and they're still as sturdy as the day they were first set up.

Some items I wouldn't buy from Ikea, but their kids' furniture is very sturdy from what I've seen.

ETA - And if you can, go into a store to buy furniture.  Their shipping prices are outrageous.  For two cribs at the store we paid $198 plus tax.  If I had had them shipped, it would have been over $300 total.

  • My plan is to pick it our online, and have a family member go get it in Round Rock Tx. But I won't see it until its already paid for and being delivered
  • They aren't the best quality out there, but I would totally buy a toddler bed there. I have a bookcase from there and we love it. You can't beat the price and the quality is better than Target/Walmart/other you-assemble-it brands. I absolutely love visiting the store - spent almost 3 hours there last time I went. If you ever get the chance to visit a store, do it. You can get lots of inspiration, really fun! :-)

    This.

  • We really like IKEA. For us, it was a way to modernize a lot of decor without spending a lot of money. We have bookshelves and a master bedroom suite and couldn't be happier. Despite moving, the furniture looks great after 3 years. Not a single shelf has bowed and the bedroom furniture has resisted wear and tear.

I fully expect that we will replace rooms with higher quality furniture as we can afford it, but this is SO much better than the hand-me-downs and mish mash we had after we got married and merged our stuff.

  • Some of it's acceptable quality and other stuff I thought looked poor... We did buy a bookshelf for DD's room that I love from IKEA.

We did look at cribs there and while the cribs seemed ok, I didn't like their crib mattresses-- they seemed too "mushy" and I was of the opinion that buying a standard crib mattress from somewhere else would not be safe because the dimensions were a little off and there would be too much of a gap.
