Toddlers: 24 Months+

Question if your kiddo will attend preschool this fall..

How old will they be?
How many days will they attend?
Full or half days?

My DS will be 3, and we've looked at (and liked) 3 schools so far. DH leans towards the montessori program at our neighborhood public school that is 5 days a week, half days, 3's 4's and 5's are mixed in the same room, with a 10/1 student teacher ratio. A benefit is that if he starts there at 3 he could stay in that montessori program for the rest of elementary. If he doesnt start at 3, he's out of luck. I liked it for a 4 or 5 year old but I thought it was way.too.much for a 3.

I loved this super creative, smaller, nurturing co-op preschool but its only offered 2 days a week, half days. I'm not sure if thats too little.

I think 3 days is ideal, but the preschool that offers this has some disadvantages (like being far-ish from our house).

Just wondering what everyone else is doing. TIA.

Re: Question if your kiddo will attend preschool this fall..

  • DS will be almost 3.5 and will go Tuesday and Thursday for half days.  We'll move up to 3 or 4 days next year.  I think two days a week is a great introduction into preschool.

  • We've applied to two pre-schools and still waiting to hear if we got in.  One is a 3 or 4 day program that is 1/2 days (we opted for mornings).  The other is a 3 day 1/2 day program.  I prefer 3 days for age 3 because I still like to have 2 mornings a week to do things with him.

At one of the schools the 4 year old program goes up to 5 days a week (still 1/2 days) and my opinion will probably change in a year but I'm not ready for my baby to be gone every morning :-(. I like having one day a week where we stay in pajamas and hang around the house and cuddle while we watch too much TV.

  • Hey there. :)

Sophie will be heading to preschool this fall. We're using one of the local preschools that are affiliated with the public schools -- I think their curriculum (Tools of the Mind) will be a good approach for her. I toured three of their preschools, all within a 10-minute radius from our house, and picked the one with the facilities/vibe/director I liked the best (since everything else -- curriculum, cost, 8/1 ratio, etc. was the same). I registered her last week.

Like you, I wanted to do three days, but none of the nearby Jeffco preschools offered that option. We had to pick between two or four. Right now she's registered for two days with a 2.5-hour session. She already does a toddler class for 90 minutes twice a week, and I think she'll handle the longer session just fine.

We just found out she has a speech delay and she's being evaluated for services, which could mean that they want her there four days a week. I think that's an awful lot for her, but we'll go with their recommendation.

  • Look how cute that Asher is!  We are looking at 2 that are traditional preschools (we don't have Montessori nearby), so 18ish kids with 2 teachers.  He will go 2 or 3 days a week 9-11:30.  He turns 3 the end of October.

  • We are looking into sending DS1 either 2 or 3 half days per week next fall.

  • I plan to enroll DS in DougCo's district preschool program in one of our neighborhood schools. It's a lottery system, so I'll rank my favorites and hope he gets into one I like. We either have the choice of 2 or 4 days, so I'll likely choose 2 this year and possibly 4 next year. I haven't decided on AM or PM yet. Registration is at the end of February, so I have a few weeks.

He was 3 this month, so he'll be over 3 1/2 by then.

  • DS will be almost 3 1/2

He'll attend 2 days a week for 2.5 hours.  The following year he will attend 3 half days.  Kindergarten here is still half days so we think this is a nice transition (and what we did for DD1 as well).

  • My DD will be 3 (in May) and will go 3 days a week for half days.  Not even a full half day (it's just under 3 hours).

She's already been going 2 days a week this whole year, in a 2 year old jr. preschool program.

  • If we decide to send her, we have yet to make a decision, she will go 2 days a week, and they are only 1/2 days.  We still only have 1/2 day kindergarten.  Next year she will go for 4-1/2 days.  This year my daughter would be 3 years 5 months old at the start of the school year.

  • I'm pretty sure DS will be starting preschool this fall, but it's a special preschool for kids with speech delays. He'll be 3.5 by October, and I'm fairly certain it's 5 days a week, 2.5 hours a day (I think. It's been a while since I saw the info).

  • She'll just have turned 3 in July and will start in September.

The 3 year old class goes Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11:30 each day. (The 4 year old class goes Monday, Wednesday, Friday, from 9-12 each day).

FWIW I only visited one school and loved it right off of the bat. It's highly rated in the county, less than a mile away from my work, and the price is great. IMO the program is excellent and I really can't think of one con.
