The last few days DS#1 (almost 2yrs old) will not take a nap. He screams and screams and screams until we finally get him out. We've let him cry for up to 1/2 hour but he doesn't fall asleep.
He's not sleeping too much at night. He goes to bed around 7:30 and gets up between 4 and 5am. He sometimes will go back to sleep with DH (I am sleeping with DS#2 on one room and DH is in another) for a while in the morning, but even if that's the case he's still up by 6:30 at the absolute latest.
Any advice?
Re: DS will not nap-- please help
Ugh! That's awful!
So, first things first...is he sick? Teething? Uncomfortable? I think you said he has pneumonia. Could that be the reason? Jacob isn't sleeping great because he has this nasty cough. When he wakes up coughing early in the AM, he can't get back to sleep.
If everything is cool, it sounds like he's overtired. Can you put him down earlier? Does he respond to rocking or any other soothing methods that might calm him down before he goes down?
I might even let him cry for an hour. You never know. Perhaps he knows that after 30 minutes you'll go and get him.
Does he nap at daycare? If so, what do they do to get him to nap? Maybe you can replicate that at home.
I'm really sorry, hon. I know you could use a break during the day!
thank you! yes, he is sick but getting better and since he goes down fine at night i feel like it's not the illness. i lay him down and sing for about 10 mins and rub his back and he's calm but as soon as i leave the room the screaming starts. he hasnt been at daycare since last wed b/c of being sick, so so far this has only been at home.
i feel like he needs his sleep extra much right now b/c of recuperating from illness, but instead hes getting less.
I have no advice, but maybe it's the age because we are going through the same thing. My DS does sleep better at night though (usually 8-8 - he doens't go to daycare). He has had a cold off and on, so I'm hoping that's the problem. Good luck!
