Best Finger Foods?

Hi all!!

I am getting ready to take the leap from smushy baby foods to finger foods for my 8 month old little girl...any good ideas on an easy "take the leap" food for her? I am terrified of the transition!

  • Noddles are always soft and easy. My LO loves soup with the broth drained. I give her minestrone, vegetable, chicken noodle, etc. Those are very easy to swallow and pretty easy for LO to pick up too. Also, cooked veggies like peas and carrots. Or canned fruits like pears and peaches. Grilled cheese is a good one too (minus the crust if your LO is just starting out). Hmmm....cottage cheese is good. It's messy, but my LO loves it. (Which reminds me I haven't bought it for her in awhile) That's all I can think of right now. But I totally recommend the drained soups! They work great and have so many varieties. Hope that helps!
  • There's a British book called Baby Led Weaning that is all about teaching a baby to eat regular food early on.  It gives tons of suggestions of foods to try.  It's an anti-puree method.  We do some purees and some regular foods.  One of her favorite things is a piece of string cheese, cut into thirds lengthwise.  She can hold one end and chew on the other end.
  • My DD has loved string cheese since she started finger foods. She also likes fruits and veggies cut into small pieces. Her favorites are grapes, raspberries, steamed broccoli, cooked carrots, peas, and strawberries. Like Amy said too, she loves noodles. Especially pasta salad noodles.
