long distance baby shower

has anyone had a long distance baby shower thrown for them? 

DH's whole family (huge family) lives in CA.  my SIL is pregnant too (due a month before me) and MIL wants to throw us a joint shower in april.  the problem is, DH and i have class on saturdays and right now plane tickets are ridiculously expensive, especially for just a weekend trip.  MIL thought maybe we could get on skype on our webcams and still have the joint shower. 

if you've had a long distance shower, how did the logistics work for you?

    I've never done that, but as someone who uses Skype constantly, I think it sounds like a great idea! 

    You could either designate someone out there to open gifts for you and then mail everything to you after the shower or ask people to mail things to you so they'd arrive before the shower and you can open them on camera.

    I was in the exact same situation, we just ended up coupling our shower when we came back to IN for a friend's wedding.  I was only 14 weeks, so it felt a little weird, but my family understood and were really awesome about getting gender neutral stuff that would be easy to take back in our suitcases :)
