Parenting after 35

"Cat."

Last night, one of our cats was feeling needy or something, so she started mewing at about 3am and jumped on the bed.  Margaux, who was deeply asleep, suddenly sat up, looked at the cat, looked at me, and said "Cat" with absolutely perfect diction.  She even pronounced the "t" at the end.  She then fell right back over into a deep sleep.

Very cute, but kind of weird!

Re: "Cat."

  • That is cute! Has she said "cat" since?
  • Loading the player...
  • She says it all the time, it's a go-to word!  Thing is, when she's awake, she uses this high-pitched semi-shriek and never pronounces the "t."  I was reminded about last night because she just yelled it at a cat again.  I think she'd have more success making friends with the cats if she'd stop shrieking at them.  :)

Probably. Is she a fan  of the over-excited "pat" as well. That's what always drives our kitty away. "Kitteeeeee" Thwomp!

  • She's actually gentle with them, once she does get close.  Except once with the biggest cat... she petted the big cat, then went for the next one by sitting on the cat she just petted.  Squish.

  • Mikey can be gentle, in fact he usually is, but when he gets excited he dances around, yells "kitteeee" and grabs the cat if she walks by or is within reach.

LOL, Keira squeals "CoCo" or "Cat" (she can't say Ophelia) and gives chase.  I keep trying to explain to her that she's scaring the cats by shrieking and running, but I don't think she gets it.  At least she's stopped saying "cat's eye?" and jabbing her finger at their eyes.

That is so cool that Margaux is talking so well.  And I love that picture of her.  She's just gotten more beautiful!

  • Sydney still only says a handful of words - Mom, Dada, more, Ga-Mom, and some animal sounds. So the other day, imagine my surprise when I asked her what she had (she swiped the remote) and she said "remote" clear as can be. I actually got it on video.

  • How cute - and very smart!
  • Cabo is already not a big fan of M.  I have a feeling he will be terrified when M learns the word CAT, which I am sure he will exclaim at the top of his lungs, while preparing to pounce.  Cabo, my friend, countertops are your best friend!

  • Smart kid!   S likes to chase our cats and scream his head off at them.   It's getting worse every day.  If he catches them he mauls them.  He just doesn't understand "gentle".
