Psyching Myself Up...

I still have a few weeks of this pregnancy left, but I have been creeping around this board in the attempt to psych myself up for after I have my son and its time to lose the 45-55lbs I've gain/will have gained.  Im up 36 lbs right now (at 31 weeks).. and I had been putting on weight before I got the BFP.

I was never a healthy eater... if I had a special occasion I needed to lose weight for I would crash diet (coffee, smoking and soup usually...) I am also an emotional eater.

I need some tips, ie: books, websites etc. that teach you how to;

1. look at food differently

2. teach you how to eat healthy. (better choices, simple recipes, portion control etc)

I don't want to diet, or crash diet... because I have alot of weight to lose after this baby comes and I would like to be able to keep it off.. 

Also I have never been an exerciser... just have trouble with motivation.

So any advice is nice, sorry if this is a repost or someone has posted this recently.  Im not a daily lurker.

  • I don't know you or what might work for you. I can speak to what helped me. I am about 20 lbs below my pp weight. When the baby comes along, your world is going to be turned upside down! Nothing is a given the first couple months, and your schedule with be so out of whack. Honestly, I wasn't able to do the mindless snacking the first couple months after the baby because she was so time consuming and needy. I had to make myself eat. Since I was and have been breastfeeding, I was very aware that what I put in my body affects my milk so I made sure to make healthy choices. I don't know if you are going to bf or not, but that has personally made a huge difference in my weight loss because of the extra calories being burned. I think you need to get through the first couple months with the baby, and then look again at where you are and start to focus at that point on your weight loss. But, that is just my opinion.   • Take a look at sparkpeople.com . They are an excellent resource for people who want to make a positive lifestyle change. Plus, it's free! 

    For books, maybe check things out like The Eat Clean Diet by Tosca Reno, or The Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain. They are pretty hardcore, but if you are ready to jump in with both feet and do a complete 180 with your eating habits, go with them. If that is a little too intimidating (I'm still working up to these myself), go with The Abs Diet books. You really can't go wrong with them.

    For gadgets, the GoWearFit is really cool. It records how many calories you burn, steps taken, sleep efficiency and so on. It is great for someone who loves numbers, but the armband itself is a little pricey, and you have to pay a monthly subscription (around $7/month). A cheaper alternative is the fitbit.

    Fitness DVD's are your friend, especially if you find the gym intimidating or can't afford it. Check out Jari Love, Patrick Goudeau, Amy Bento... or look at collagevideo.com

  • This is the first step.  I don't have any kids so I feel like I can't give advice for what will work best with an infant but I want to wish you luck.

    If you will have the time, you might want to try tracking your calories, carbs, etc. on a website like Livestrong's daily plate.
