  Ambsies:

  They just show how active of a poster you are.  You get a certain amount of points for creating a post and a certain number for responding to one.  

  But are they used for anything beyond that?  Do they contribute toward the level of poster you are (bronze, etc?)

  I believe after so many posts and responses the points get you to higher levels, other than that I'm not so sure.

  As far as I know they're not used for anything else.  Newbie, Bronze, Silver, etc. statuses are based on your post count.

  Newbie= 1 ----> 600 posts

  Bronze= 601 ----> 2000 posts

  Silver= 2001 ----> 6000 posts

  Gold= 6001 ----> 16000

  Platinum= 16001+
