Success after IF

DOC band users, help, he H-A-T-E-S it!

Last night was our first night and we didn't get to bed until 3AM and that was only b/c we took the blasted thing off.  Naps have been okay so far.  He favors the back of his head while sleeping (which is why we have this) and he is just so uncomfortable and moves around so much to the point where it's almost getting pushed off his head.  They said he would get used to it.  Anyone else's LO have a problem at first?

Re: DOC band users, help, he H-A-T-E-S it!

  • J sleeps on his side more so I'm not sure if that helped with the sleeping.  His band didn't affect his sleeping but it did affect his mood/personality.  We wasn't uncomfortable but he was just sad when he first got it.  He wanted to be held all the time, didn't want to play, didn't smile as much.  It took him about a week to get used to it but he is his normal self now.

He will whine for about 30 seconds when we put it on but once it is one he forgets about it.  I didn't think he was going to adjust since it seemed to take him longer than others but I say just keep up with it.  Kids are adaptable and he will get used to it.

I just kept reminding myself that we were doing it for his own good.  Hope it gets better tonight!

  • Poor thing, and poor parents! We have the CT helmet, so not sure what difference that would make. The only thing different now is that DS will not sleep in his back. Stomach only. And usually face down, which worries me a bit, but I'm constantly checking his breathing. Even if we reposition him a million times, he goes right back. Of course, he could have just been getting to the age he wanted to do it anyway. I'm sure you've already checked for pressure spots. If it's not that, you could make an appt. to check the fit. Hopefully, it will just take a brief period for him to get adjusted to having it on. GL!
  • It took Cora about 2 days to get used to it.  But, after that she did not even notice it at all.

I guess it is like any change - like changing where they sleep, changing how they eat, etc.

He will get there.  I am sure in a day or two you can write a totally different post.  Hang in there

  • Agreed!  Our first 2 nights were rough, I was FREAKING OUT - and then - it was fine.  Totally fine.  Jack immediately stopped sleeping on his back - it must have been just too uncomfortable - and became a side/tummy sleeper.  He was over 6 months old at the time so I didn't worry about it.  You figure they have to find a comfortable spot with that big old helmet on.  It WILL be fine.  Hang in there!!
    Wheee!
