Double Stroller Question/Recs?

We just bought covertible car seats for the twins today (cha-ching!), and now we have to buy a stroller immediately, since we only have a double snap-n-go right now.

Now, I know we will buy a double jogging stroller.  We don't need it for jogging, but we do a ton of walking as a family, around our neighborhood, at the zoo, on paved trails, etc.  We use our single jogging stroller (for Ava) pretty much daily when the weather is nice, so I know that we *will* use a double jogger for the twins.

So, two questions...

1) Should we even bother buying a double umbrella stroller, or should we just plan to use the jogger as our go-to stroller?  I know the double jogger will be BIG when folded up, but is a double umbrella really that much better?

2) Any double jogger recs?  We NEED to buy one at the lower end (like I said, we don't need it for jogging, so it does not need to be top of the line).  The most we can spend (after coupons/deals, etc.) would be $250, so a BOB is out of the question.  Can anyone recommend one? We have a Baby Trend for Ava, and we like it...anyone know anything about the Schwinn or InStep ones?

Thanks!!!

Re: Double Stroller Question/Recs?

  • LOVE our Baby Jogger City Mini. It is super light, easy to fold up and it actually folds up pretty flat :) Go test drive it if you can! Maneuvers really well too. It may be a bit more than $250, but shop around for sales online. I think that Albeebaby has some on sale at times. Unfortunately, you cannot use coupons for it at BRU or BBB. It was worth every penny :) It also fits though standard doors!

Also, I wouldn't bother with the double umbrella. I don't have twins (obviously!), but I don't see the purpose of having both. Just buy a good double and you will use that one all the time. Honestly, the City Mini folds a lot easier and flatter than you are probably imagining!

    GL!

  • i would look for a Valco trimode twin used - b/c it has a toddler seat so you can walk with all 3 in one stroller.  It's an all-terrain, great for long walks, bumpy sidewalks, grass, gravel, etc. I love mine- esp b/c i can put all 3 kids in it at once.

DS1 doesn't go in a stroller much now at all - we use a hitch hiker board for him now attached to my City Select (which i love- can write a whole post about it!)... but when we had the twins DS1 was only 2y2mo and we used the Valco a LOT.  It's not cheap- but worth every penny.

  • You are probably best off with the City Mini!

  • We have a BOB so I'm not much help on the double jogger rec.  Keep your eyes on Craigslist, though.  I see lots of double joggers at or below your price point.  I will say that we are going to get an umbrella stroller (we also just got our convertible car seats).  While I love my BOB it's just not practical to throw in the back for a quick run into Target.

  • Thanks, ladies!  I've been scouring Craigslist for a few weeks now, but I haven't found much.  I'll keep hunting for good sales!

  • We have a city mini as well and it's really a great stroller. Really lightweight and folds up easily. And the tires will not go flat:) (Even though I LOVE air filled tires on joggers).

I did find Valco Tri Mode Twin on CL with toddler seat for about 300 a few months ago! You just have to really keep looking everyday! It is a heavy stroller though, if you ask me!
