What do you use to make your cloth wipes?

I will be going to Jo-Ann's on Saturday and want to get some fabric to make some wipes. I want to see if I make some if they will get rid to the rash cause wash cloths and disposable whips are out. Sad I am seriously about ready to pull my hair out with this damn rash.

Anyway, what fabric have you found to work the best? Flannel, cotton, terrycloth, etc.?

  • I've tried lots of combinations (velour+knit, bamboo fleece+flannel, bamboo terry+flannel, etc), but my favorite combination is two layers of flannel.  Simple and gets the job done.  We just wet the wipe with water and toss it in with the diapers.

  • i used receiving blankets and old flannel pj's for mine, so like pp, they are just 2 layers of flannel.  LOVE them!  they work great and didn't cost me a thing!  you can also use those little baby wash cloths too.

  • Ditto 2 layers of flannel.  They seem to work best for us.

  • I'd have to agree...I like our flannel wipes best.

  • We love the baby washclothes from Target.  My mom made some 2-layered flannel ones, and honestly, they're just too bulky.
  • I use flannel for the ones I make myself.  I have good luck raiding the remnant bins and can find really cute baby patterns for cheap.  I also use some baby washcloths for wipes too when I can find them for cheap in the store.
  • I planned on doing some luxurious double layer wipes, but they were going to be way too bulky so I use one layer of sherpa and they work great. I was able to cut 100 wipes from $26 of fabric.
  • I've made flannel/terry wipes and flannel/flannel wipes.  The flannel/terry wipes stain real bad on the terry side and the terry has frayed pretty bad.  I love my flannel/flannel wipes.
