Detroit Babies

ST.John Det, Beaumont Grose Pointe, Henry Ford Cottage

Has anyone delivered at any of these hospitals?  Any rants or raves?  I have the option to deliver at any of these with my midwife and would love to know more about them to make my decision.  Do any of them offer a birthing tub?

I delivered my daughter at Royal Oak Beaumont and the hospital was beautiful but it was way to invasive and hands on for me.  They also do not give delivery privileges to midwifes :(

Any impute would be appreciated!

Thanks!

  • I am having my son at St. John Detroit.  I was impressed when we did our tour - tons of information, great staff, etc.  They do not offfer birthing tubs...but they do have showers in the bathroom attached to your room.

  • Thank you so much for your response!  Your the 4th person to recomend St.Johns.  I think I'm going to take a tour....
  • I love, love, love Beaumont troy.  I delivered both my babies there.  The staff is so great, and nice.  They give you your privacy, only 1 family per room, very clean, very nice to your family and visitors.  I had some issues once while pregnant and had to goto royal oak, and didn't like it as much.
  • Grosse Pointe Beaumont, the hospital formerly known as Bon Secours, is where I was born 35 years ago. My friend who is a mother of four had all of her children there. Another friend had her twins there. It's where I'm going to have my baby even though I live less than a mile from RO Beaumont. It's a smaller hospital, so it's much more personal than Royal Oak Beaumont. I'm also partial to the hospital because it's where I took my mom 5 1/2 years ago when she was having a stroke and she received excellent care and made a 100 percent recovery because of the attention she was given so quickly. Cottage used to be best known for orthopedic type things, but that was also before Henry Ford bought them.
  • I had our daughter at St. John's and I loved it.  I also have another point of view since I did my Ob/Gyn rotation at St. John's also, so I worked with a lot of the nurses and doctors.  The nurses are great, as are the residents and doctors.

The main reason I chose to deliver at St. Johns, since I had the choice between there and Bon Secour, is that St. John's has a NICU and a peds residency, so there is always peditricians at the hospital and if for any reason something happened I would feel more comfortable.  Actually my daughter did have to go to the Special Care Nursery, and I am thankful we were at St. John's instead of a smaller more private hospital

  • I delivered at St. John Detroit and it was great. ?It is very traditional though (i.e. there was no walking around the halls, etc.).
