Success after IF

Camping with a Toddler

Who's tried it and succeeded?  LOL.  We are going this June with my parents, and my niece & nephew.  It would only be for 2 nights b/c it is a lot of work even though its vacation.  I have a rough draft list made of the essentials we would need, First Aid kit being #1.  ;)  My only fear is her waking up and wandering off.  I really don't think she would since she's so wary of strangers anyway, and we'll be in the tent.  Showering will be fun too b/c its only showers and she doesn't like them.  I haven't been camping since I was a kid, but I enjoyed it so much and I can't wait to share this experience with her!  So, any tips?

TIA!

Re: Camping with a Toddler

  • We've camped a couple times.  We always took our pack n play (our tent is plenty big for it).  Realistically - she won't be able to get out of the tent w/o you knowing - w/ or w/o a PNP.

I wouldn't really worry about bathing her over a weekend.  It's camping, Camping is meant to be dirty.

  • yea, I was thinking I would hear the zipper, her wake up, etc.  You gave me a lil chuckle with the dirty for a weekend comment ;)  Thanks!

  • My best tip is to do a trial run in the back yard before the actual trip.

Then talk it up a lot.

My kids enjoy anything we label an "adventure" including spending 2 days in a car driving from Colorado to Texas.

As for wandering off?  There's no way my guys could successfully unzip our tent and get out without us waking.  Actually I don't think they could unzip our tent at all.

Let her mess with it and see if she struggles.  That might help your fears/concerns a bit.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • We went camping with 6 couples and 6 kids under 2.  Seriously.  It was a great time.  The kids played, ate, and were just messy kids.  Most of the couples brought a pack and play for the tent so there were no escapes but after the day of fresh air they were all exhausted.  We have plastic cable ties that we use on the "doors" because we usually have our dogs with us and they can get out during the night.

I wouldn't worry about showers, just do a like sponge bath.
