I agree that the malpractice lawsuits are insane. I didn't realize that you had 18 years to sue, really??? I do feel that the original doctors that I interviewed basically told me that I'd end up with a repeat CS and I definitely feel like it was to cover their butts in regards to lawsuits (and I see their side since it is done so often), so the issue is making it so lawsuits can only come up when reasonable. I live in an area where 10 or so maternity wards have closed also.
I ended up going with a midwife who I definitely trusted. At any point, had she said that I needed a CS, I would have trusted her judgement and gone with it. I knew she would only choose that option when truly medically necessary.
That's because we live in the same area! And we see the same CNM. 
About a year ago, maybe a little more, you recommended Ronni to me, after I'd already seen some glowing reviews of her elsewhere online. I saw her in July for my annual exam and I loved her. I have my first prenatal appointment with her in February. I feel SO confident about having a VBAC with her. Thank you so much for the recommendation.
P.S. Yeah, OBs can be liable until the child reaches 18. I don't know if this is the case everywhere, and it's probably rare (they would sue much sooner than that, I'm guessing) but it can happen. Blows.

Haha! I remember you! I didn't remember your screen name. I was wondering if you were in my area because I can't imagine every city is taking the same hit as we are. At this rate, we'll all be giving birth in our living rooms because there will be no maternity wards left.
You will absolutely love her during your pregnancy. She is awesome and extremely laid back yet level headed when it comes to delivery. You and your baby are in great hands!
This reminds me that I need to schedule my annual visit soon. . .
