I got pg. on my first FET. I didn't have a fresh that cycle due to OHSS. I did 2 more FETs (SET) and one ended in a c/p, the other BFN.
I did a fresh and got pg. with #2. The embryo transferred this time was not as stellar as the second FET but worked.
You can't judge a book by its cover just as you never know which embryos are good or bad. It is only a best guess at which will work. I would try an FET first since it is SOOOOOOO much easier. If you have a bad experience than go back to the fresh.
If the embies were seriously that crappy they wouldn't have froze them in the first place!
From our last fresh cycle (the only one with frosties): fresh = BFN, FET#1 = m/c #4, FET#2 = BFP
Per my nurse, some women actually have higher success rates with FETs. Your hormones are more 'normal' and you don't have the big E2 spikes that you see with fresh cycles. That can make some embryos *very* happy.
I also think my body was better on my FET. I had OHSS after my Fresh ER and so I am pretty sure it contributed to my Fresh IVF failing. Like you I was pessimistic about a FET but wanted to give it a try and my FET miracle is getting closer to 2 every day. They can work even if you had a BFN on your fresh.
My body did way better with an FET. I had 3 "perfect" fresh cycle BFNs and one FET BFP! My doc is a huge fan of them because the body is in a more natural state.
TTC since Dec '04
Severe MFI-diagnosed 12/06
3 failed Fresh IVFs
FET #1 - BFP!! 2 blasts tx on day 6.
Beta #1 8dp6dt = 56, Beta #2 = 600, Beta #3 = 5600

I got pg both cycles, but my FET was more successful. They supposedly put in the two best for my fresh cycle, but one stopped growing early on. With my FET they were still good quality embies, just not as good as the first two, but both boys stuck and hung in there!

Re: Is pointless a synonym for FET?
I think I did better with the FET My body was WHACK on the stims, and the FET I just felt better.
I also did a lot of stuff (2nd lap, lupron depot, intralipids) different with the FET, so who knows.
All 3 embies transferred (SET with fresh, 2 with FET) were really high quality, though, so I didn't feel like I was transferring bad embies.

My friend had twins off her FET (last three embies).
My OB(!) had a baby from a single embryo FET.
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!

Thanks for the feedback, girls. I know it can work, it's just so hard to believe it will.
Also, re-reading my post and the board I'm on...that last option was pretty stupid, wasn't it?
