Did your OB offer you the option of being induced early?
I was totally taken aback today when my OB said, "So we can schedule you for an induction anytime after you rech 39 weeks if you're interested."
Apparently since I had a successful vaginal delivery the first time my chances of another are very high and the likelihood of induction resulting in a c-section is very low.
It's certainly not something I would have considered with my first, but it's awfully tempting now. It would make arrangements for Henry much easier, for sure. The idea of being able to plan ahead for this is much more appealing to me than I would've ever thought before I walked into her office this morning.
FWIW, the baby is head down and unlikely to move at this point, I'm about 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced right now.
Thoughts?
Re: moms of two--or pregnant with #2 re: induction
Well I already know I'm having scheduled c/s (just don't have the date yet), but if my Dr offered me what yours did, I'd be all over it.
So hell yes- take the scheduled induction.
Pretty much for planning reasons I would do it. Makes it so much easier for someone to watch Henry.
My OB stripped my membranes at 39 weeks exactly and I started having mild contractions that night, by the next night I was in full blown labor and Nolan was born at 39w2d. You could always try that too. But I would just take the induction, so much easier! I had to call my Mom at 1am to come over (and she is 45 minutes away) to watch Brady so we could go to the hospital.
I did have pitocin the first time around, because after my water broke and I was dilated 5 cm and having contractions 2 mins apart my labor stalled. So I've gone the pitocin route before and I plan to have an epidural again in any case.
I was scheduled for an induction with my second at 38wk1d but that was because with my son there was a shoulder distocia issue and we didn't want a repeat of that.
For what it's worth, I never made it to my induction as I went into labor the night before. So, even if you plan it out, your baby may not stick to that plan. I see nothing wrong though with planning it for right around 39 weeks as a way to help you with childcare, etc.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
This Cluttered Life
I was induced with both of mine. With DS it was due to his non-growth at the end and for DD it was because I didn't want to go past 40 wks, especially in light of the what happened at the end with DS. The second induction was cake. I chose not to get an epi due to it not working with DS and it wasn't bad at all. I was a 3 when we started in the morning. At 12:30 I was a 4 but then things went super fast and she was born at 2:30. : )
I had a long hard labor with DS (25 hours with 4+ hours of pushing) I was offered to be induced at 39w5d. I went in and had Cryotec (a pill to soften my cervix) at 9:30pm. I was suppose to have them every three hours and just that one pill put me into labor. I got my epi at 5:30am and DD was here at 9:52. So a little over 12 hours from start to finish and it was GREAT! I had a nice dinner and then went into the hospital. DS was cared for and it was nice to know where he was and have a plan.
My guess is that I was already in early labor when I got there and the drug just put me into a good strong labor. BTW- I never had pitocin with DD

I was induced with my first due to medical reasons and it went successful. I asked my doctor if I could be induced with #2, she said at 39 weeks since it wasn't medically necessary.
By the time I got called for my induction, I was already 100% effaced and 7 cm and hadn't felt one contraction when I got in there, although my contractions were not consistent so I was put on pitocin and baby #2 arrived less than 2 hours after they called me in and broke my water. I am pretty sure I would have gone on my own sometime that weekend.
Anyways, I elected to be induced because I felt it was a little easier to plan care for my daughter, but either way I was prepared if baby came early which he didn't.
I had a super easy induction with DS which was considered elective since there was no medical reason except that I was 6cm and my OB was worried that my water would break and I wouldnt make it to the hospital.
I have definitely thought about asking for another one but my OB hasnt mentioned it to me yet. I think I might bring it up at my next appt depending on how my cervix looks. I think if I still dont have any progress then I would be more likely to wait for it to happen on its own.

I had to have an induction at 39 weeks because I had GD, but my doc would have offered it if I hadn't.
I wasn't induced with DD (again, would have been at 39 weeks), and the induction with DS actually went MUCH smoother than her birth. We started at noon and he was born after 20 minutes of pushing at 6:30 pm.
