I'm in the market for a carrier or sling for my 3 month old. I would like it to last through all DD growth stages and I don't want to spend a fortune. What are you using and what would you recomend?
I tried 3 different slings before I bought the Moby wrap and I totally regret not buying the Moby first. It's way easier to use than I thought it would be, LO loves it and it's much more comfortable than anything else I tried.
I have a bjorn, a moby, and a connecta. I like the moby for at home but I find the bjorn and the connecta easier for taking out, because they are faster to get on/off. I like the bjorn better for newborn, but the connecta is much more comfortable after about 4 months, but it doesn't forward face. I guess I would say my favorite overall is the connecta.
My moby is wonderful!! My 3 month old son has loved it since the beginning. Its very easy to put on once you get the hang of it. I can put it on in 30 seconds or less. It is great if you have back problems too, cause it distributes baby's weight evenly across your whole torso. Plus it has a bunch of different positions you can put baby in. I actually have 2 so if one's dirty, the other's available. They're not that expensive, and you can probably find one on craigslist.com for a great deal.
I knew that I wanted to be able to wear LO as long as possible and with as much versatility as possible, so I looked into woven wraps. While a woven wrap is a long piece of fabric, like a Moby is, it is not stretchy so it will be able to support LO's weight into toddler-hood (if my back can take that, LOL). We have a Moby, my Neobuelle woven wrap, and we got a Bjorn for $15 on consignment that we haven't touched because I like wrapping so much. I would like a Beco (structured carrier) for grandparents to use for if they aren't into wrapping. Ergo is another popular structured carrier brand, but since I am short that isn't a good fit for me.
I like the Moby or Sleepy Wrap for newborns. Once they hit 15lbs or so they don't work as well though because they stretch out.
I LOVE my Babyhawk! It's much faster to get on than the Moby or Sleepy Wrap and you can use it a lot longer.
DH loves the Ergo because it just buckles and he doesn't have to worry about tying anything. It is super comfortable and I can comfortably carry my 30lb 3.5 year old if needed.
I really like the Mei Tei. They can be worn on the front or back when LO gets older, and they are really easy to put on. You can buy the name brand, but they are pretty expensive. If you are a crafty mom, you can find lots of patterns online. I actually bought one on ETSY for pretty cheap, and it's really well made, I just had to sacrifice the fancy patterned fabric.
I love my Baby K'tan. It's like the Moby but is so much easier to put on because you don't have to wrap it and it has much less fabric, but you can wear it in all the same ways.
