What do 7 and 8 year old boys like for presents?

I have 2 birthday parties this weekend and have no idea what to get either kid since we don't know them well (even though they're family). 

I would spend about $25-35 for each boy.  One is turning 7 and the other is turning 8.  The 8 year old comes from a lot of money so I'm sure whatever I get won't compare to other things he is getting- I just have to show up with something!

Any idea is appreciated!

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again

    You're not out of it. They just keep coming out with more new fun things. Unless you see the kids every day, it's hard to know. I agree with what's posted. My friends son is into all of that. A DSi, wii or Kinect game would be a hit, too.

    Within my family, it's okay to ask what the child likes or if they have one already.

    Thanks everyone. I printed out this thread and I'm going to the store tomorrow. 

    I did ask what they wanted.  One parent never responded and the other told me no gift was necessary.  Yeah, right.   A 7 year old doesn't want a present? LOL

    Yea, those Lego kits are a fun thing for boys that age. If I don't know what someone will like or what age group they are within I usually go by the product's age label. Ex. it'll say ages 7-11, etc.

    Legos for sure.  Also books!  Depending on how well they read, Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, Magic Treehouse series...
