Postpartum Depression

Question about meds and sex drive.....

I'm finally going to see the Dr today about possibly being put on meds for PPD.  Did taking meds help with your sex drive?  I currently have zero sex drive and I'm sure it's going to affect my marriage soon.  Thankfully, my DH has been very understandable and hasn't pressured me at all.  We haven't had sex for almost a year now.  I have a 7 month old and a 2 1/2 yr old.  I'm not BFing so I'm not sure what the issue is with my sex drive.  Any words of wisdom?  Thanks ladies!

  • I wont lie...Im on celexa and my sex drive crashed! But it most def has been coming back slowly(been on it like 4 months). But I also started the ring which does highten the sensation during sex (sorry if its TMI). Good luck

  • I'm on Prozac and have zero sex drive. But, once the depression lifts it makes it easier for me to at least try to do a bit more in the bedroom. It helps me at least make the effort. When I"m depressed, I can't do anything and have no will to try.

  • I was on Paxil and it was so bad for the sex drive... worse was that there was no 'O'  at all :(  Sorry, most SSRI's are going to be like this.
  • I had the same experience as everyone else, but I have to say in the long run it is worth the sacrifice. A lowered sex drive will affect your marriage but untreated depression can ruin your life. Get the help you need despite the side effects.

  • My doc put me on Lexapro specifically because it is not supposed to effect your sex drive (granted, it won't kick it into gear, but it's not supposed to make it worse!).  I just started taking it, so I can't give you any long term experience but I'm hopeful!

  • Thanks ladies for the comments.  My Dr prescribed me Lexapro and Lorazepam when needed.  I'm so glad I finally got some help.  I've been trying to convince myself things would get better with time and they've just gotten worse.  Hopefully, I'll start feeling better soon.
