Trouble TTC

Can someone explain what a follicle check is?

I'm taking Clomid this month and had an HSG yesterday.  After the HSG my doctor told me to come to her office on day 21 of my cycle for a follicle check.  I've tried to google this subject, but still can't understand what that means.  What does a follicle check accomplish?  Especially on day 21.

Re: Can someone explain what a follicle check is?

  • If they do a follicle check on CD21 with ultrasound, the only thing they would be able to see is if a follicle has already ruptured and released the egg (ovulated). Usually the only thing that's done on CD21 is progesterone b/w to see if you've ovulated. Follicle checks are usually done before you O, not after.

  • Ditto PPs, the follicle checks I had were transvaginal ultrasounds before I ovulated to measure the size and amount of follies I had.

It doesn't sound like you are being monitored as closely as you should be on Clomid. You may want to see out an RE (reproductive endocrineologist), if you are going to your OBGYN.
