Have Any Advice for New Brides?

Hi ladies,
We're collecting input from experienced brides for our Colorado Knotties who are just starting to plan their big day. Do you have any words of wisdom to share?
If you haven't already responded to this thread on The Nest or The Knot, we'd love to hear your advice!

Thanks!

  • My advice is don't skimp on a photographer!  She was one of the most expensive parts of the the whole day but I wouldn't have it any other way!! You NEVER get to re-live that day and you will be sick if you don't have good pictures from it!  Best money we spent by far!  Don't shop for a bargain in this department :)  There are other ways to save!!  and...Enjoy this process!  Make it your dream, not your mom's dream, not your sister or sister-in-laws dream, it is your day!  Do what you want regardless of what people think!!

  • Great advice! Thank you for your input!
  • I agree, the photographer is one of the most important components of your wedding.  I think besides finding the groom, your dress and photographer are most important.  All of the little details that you worked so hard to be perfect won't matter.  I had so many things not go right at my wedding, but it didn't matter.  I was happy that I loved my husband, we got married, and that we had pretty pictures.

  • Make sure you have someone on that day that knows almost as much of the plans as you! lol. I ran around crazy days before getting details together but as I packed them up I showed two ladies what was for what and they were in charge the day of. I got to sit with my bridesmaids before the wedding and enjoy every moment because of it!

  • I agree with the people so far. My biggest regret was my photographer. We ended up asking our guests for pictures they wanted to share.

Also have someone who will take charge of things because you shouldn't be dealing with the details on the day. Anytime I heard about an issue some told me "Janis has taken care of it" She made my day! We had a remote mountainside location with a bad road to it. I found out the next day that my cake decorator had re-iced the cake up there because it was damaged on the road.

  • Aside from a great photographer, I would recommend getting a good band too. We had SO many complements on our band (Starkey Pro Entertainment). Our guests were having a blast and danced until the end of the night, even requesting overtime. The night was memorable for everyone.
