irregular periods

I am still having really irregular periods since stopping my bc 7 months ago. I finished out my last pill pack and got my period June 17. My next period was 40 days later and consecutive periods were 46 days, 42 days, and 39 days. Now, I am going on 51 days and still no period (my last period was december 1st). I have taken 2 pregnancy tests over the last week including one this morning and both negative. I feel like I should be getting somewhat back to normal and I am concerned that there may be something medical going on. Should I make an appointment with my gyno or family doctor? I have heard that thyroid problems could be to blame for irregular periods.

If you don't get your period by CD 60, then call your dr. I will also suggest visiting the TTGP (trying to get pregnant) board. They will gladly share lots of info about cycles and charting.

I know some people say that it takes a year to regulate after birth control pills, but if it were me, I would go to the doctor now and get my hormones tested and stuff. If you have a problem, it is better to find out now.

And go to your Gyne, not family doctor. She can test for thyroid problems too. Just a couple blood tests to start out with and see if you have a problem.

I've never had regular periods (before or after BCP). After 1 1/2 years of trying to get PG, and switching Dr's I finally found out I am PCOS. Had I of known this a long time ago, we could have gone a different route in TTC. So to answer you questions, yes I think you should make an appointment with your gyno. GL!
