Success after IF

My two year old will not sleep!

M has a terrible time going to sleep.  The other night he fell asleep at 10 (even though bed time is 8-8:30) and woke up at 12:30.  He was up for nearly two hours, crying and kicking at the door.  Well last night he was also up for nearly two an half hours until 245 in the morning.  He refused to go back to bed.  We gave him a banana and milk and settled him down with Mickey Mouse, then finally he fell asleep.

I have no idea why he is waking up in the middle of the night and refusing to go back to sleep.  He also shares a room with our 7 month old and thankfully L is able to sleep through it all.  We are tired and need some sort of idea on how to get him to stay asleep!

Any thoughts?

Re: My two year old will not sleep!

  • Is he overtierd?  Maybe he's too wound up to fall asleep?  Is he getting teeth?  Do you go in his room when he's crying?  Maybe doing sleep training Ferber style where you go in at intervals and tell him "it's time for sleep" and leave?  I don't think I'd continue with giving him food and Mickey Mouse (show?.) He's going to keep doing it so he can spend time with you.

Also, we have a little sleep sheep that I'll turn on when DS goes to sleep and if he wakes up in the middle of the night.. I'll turn it on and that usually will calm him down and he'll fall back to sleep eventually.
