Cloth Diapering

How do I get the stink out?

Yesterday I decided to wash my NB stash of AIOs. I bought all of them used on DS. None of them smelled when I got them, but when I opened the dryer it smelled musty and just gross. I washed them on a heavy warm wash extra cold rinse cycle with RnG (I have a top loader if that makes a difference). I've never washed CDs before since this is my first baby, so I just don't know what to do about the smell, but I really don't want stinky diapers on my fresh clean smelling baby. I would love any suggestions!

TIA!

  • my suggestion is use original powder tide. i use it and have no stink issues.

    also, maybe a stripping.

I wish I could, but I'm terribly allergic to Tide.Crying I get terrible itchy hives everytime I touch something that was washed in it, so I'm worried LO will have the same problem.

  • Let them soak in RnG overnight.

  • Also, try a hot wash instead of warm.

    well, then you're screwed!

just kidding. like nicki said, a soak may help.

    and try stripping them.

This! Everything that I have read recomends that you use the hottest water you can get. I even read somewhere that warm  rinses are better than cold. We used to have horrible  stink issues and I switched to RNG and warm rinses and we've been fine since.

  • Ok, got them soaking in RnG now. I didn't wash on hot right away because it gets REALLY hot and I was worried it would mess up the PUL. Once they're done soaking I'll do a hot wash and see if that helps. Thanks ladies! I'll let you know how it goes!
