The LC is concerned about Vivian's poor suck. She'll latch but her suck is weak. I'm not an expert, but I believe this is because we were told to supplement with bottles of pumped breastmilk and formula following a 14% weight loss while still in the hospital as my milk was slow to come in after my c-section. Luckily my supply is up and Vivian's weight is going up, but her suck is still not so good and we still have to supplement with the breastmilk I've pumped.
The LC recommended we get her tongue tie clipped and we did that today but there hasn't been any improvement in her feedings at the breast. The next step is speech therapy. Has anyone had any success with this? What does this entail? Any other suggestions to help with her suck??? I'm one frustrated momma.
TIA.
Re: XP: Speech therapy to help with breastfeeding?
hmm, no first hand experience here but I have 2 friends who are speech therapists and one said she worked with babies who had swallow/suck issues so it seems like a normal step if you need it. Although, speech therapy sounds kinda weird for a newborn doesn't it?
I think I remember them telling up to let #1 suck on our finger for "practice". Give her lots of opportunities to practice.

My son's ST started her training in the NICU teaching babies to suck and swallow while breathing as well as learning to BF. I would say give it a shot.
Because we're fancy like that.
