Sydney started a new daycare at the beginning of the year. Due to DH's work schedule where he is off one day during the week and the fact that I was off 3 days last week, she has only been there approximately 10 times so far.
And each time she's been there, she has refused to drink her bottles. I think there was one time on one day that she actually drank it. It's important for her to get enough formula because that's where the majority of her nutrients come from, and I'm annoyed that she's refusing to take it.
She's been taking them fine at home and the pediatrician thinks its probably because she's still getting used to the new place and the new people - which makes sense. Do I need to just wait it out and hope she starts drinking?
We've been working on a sippy cup and she drinks out of one pretty well, so I was thinking of sending one of those to see if she'll take that.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Re: Refusing bottles at daycare - help
I would definitely send the sippy cup, the more options the better! I have a DC in my home and have noticed that the more consistent the LOs attend the smoother things run (i.e. naps and feedings). Just after a long weekend the first day back can be a bit rough. So, sometimes it just takes time for LO to get used to so many new things/people. Good luck momma!
Also, does DD have a lovey? Maybe that would help her feel more comfy (especially if it smells like you).
Like PP mentioned I would sent in the sippy.
Your pedi is right- as my dad says "no child has ever willingly starved herself." If she is hungry enough she will drink from the bottle or sippy.
Does she hold the bottle herself now or do you hold it for her still? Do you know how the DCP is giving her the bottle?
Maybe too much is going on. I know my DD is super nosy, if she is interested in what someone else is doing she will refuse to eat! Is their a quieter place they could take her to feed her for a few days to see if that helps?
(For instance the crib room at our DC has a rocking chair in it and it is a lot quieter in there then on the floor with the rest of the babies.)
Do you remember when Annabelle was going to the first DCP and she was refusing milk/food the first week. I took her into the doctor and they thought it was because of the change too. Although DCP thought it was because my child was difficult. I would send her to DC with bottles and sippy cups, hopefully she will get use to the new surroundings and feel comfortable. How is she when you leave her? Does she cry? Does she cry all day? Maybe Dan or you can stay a few hours, until she gets use to the new place? That's what DH did for Annabelle and it worked for her.
Good luck.
I was thinking this too. If there is too much going on, DS hates to stop playing/watching the fun to eat!
Is the bottle a different temperature than what she is used to at home? (Like they put them in the fridge or maybe warm it and she isn't used to it?) DCP was warming DS's baby food at first and he refused to eat it because he eats it room temp at home, haha.
Happy Birthday, little man. We love you so much!
