Tag/Tag Jr systems

We put a Leapfrog Tag Jr reading system (rec. for ages 2-4) on Jocelyn's Christmas list, and she ended up with a Tag (regular) system. It's definitely too advanced for her (rec. for ages 4-8), although I think the concept is great. We are looking for a gift to give her when the baby arrives, and I'm wondering if it's worth it to go ahead and buy the Jr system so she can use it now (she turns 2 in March). Anyone with a child around 2 yrs old who has experience with this system? I want to get her something she'll "get" now rather than later, but if she's still going to struggle with the Jr for a little while, then I may wait.

Re: Tag/Tag Jr systems

  • I don't know this as fact but I remember reading on other boards, you can use Tag on Tag Jr books but not the other way.  We have Tag Jr, L loves it.  She got it for her birthday and is just now "getting it."
  • Loading the player...
  • I think we're going to get the tag jr for K for her birthday. It reads the entire page when they touch it with the "buddy" (pen thingy) and when they graduate to the tag pen they can still "read" their jr books. (it will just read it like the jr - the entire page at once instead of each word or sounding out words)

She's played with her brother's explorer and completely has the concept down (touch the pen to the screen to make it work) so I don't think the tag jr would be that hard for her to work.

(they have the toy story 3 version on clearance at target.com for $19.98)

  • J got Tag Jr for Cmas and I just now remembered that he even got it.  OMG, I am such a loser.  We put it in the car after the dinner party at our friends' (they got it for him) and I have no idea where it is now.  THanks for the reminder, though!  I think he is going to love it, but we'll see, I guess.

  • Ellie got the Jr. for Christmas.  I thought it was going to read the story, but it really has you do activities.  Like on the Kai-lan book, it tells you to point the reader to Rintoo, etc.  Ellie likes it a lot, but I'm not sure if she would have "gotten" it being younger than she is now at 32 months.

I think the pp was right though, that the regular one will work on the Jr. books.  So you could try that out before buying the Jr. to save some money.  I saw the Kai-lan Jr. book on clearance at the Glendale Target the other day for like $2.50.

Also, I definitely recommend getting the case for them.  I didn't want to store the books with our regular books because they would just get lost in the shuffle.  I decided at the last minute to get the case and am glad I did.  Ellie likes carrying it around, opening and closing it, and arranging her books more than she does actually playing with the system.  lol.  Gotta love free 2 day shipping on Amazon!
