Success after IF

Poll for night time ladies....

On a scale of 1 to 10 how trashy is it to take 2 small kids (say ages 3 and 4 hypothetically) to a liquor store?

We're going to a friend's birthday party tomorrow night and I need to pick up a bottle of liquor for a gift.

I'm home with the kids tomorrow and need to run this errand but I'm wondering just how many side eyes I'll get?

(like going places with 2 black eyes wasn't enough, right?  Now it's 2 black eyes AND the liquor store.  I SCREAM class!!!)

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • Jacob and I take a trip to the wine store every couple of weeks to buy some wine for Daddy and Mommy to drink.  The clerk commented the other day about how much he's grown.  Trashy mom right here!

I don't think its the slightest bit trashy to take them to a liquor store to buy a gift or for yourself!  :)

  • It's a less than one ;)
  • If taking your kids to the liquor store is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Seriously, I don't think it is trashy-- if you open the bottle before you get out of the parking lot, that is trashy (among other things).

  • If you still have 2 black eyes I think it would be freaking funny! I would do it, everybody else can kiss it!

A funny story: At work the other day this girl I work with was talking about something, and she said, "I was in the liquor store last night with T (3) and J (2) and....." I don't really remember what she said after that b/c pretty much everybody around stopped, got quiet then started laughing. They were laughing because of how nonchalant she said it, like the clerk knows her kids by name or something. Anyway, I thought it was funny and your post made me think about it:)

  • As long as you:

    a) don't take them at 10pm...and.....

    b) don't let them go in barefoot,

then I think it is totally fine!!!

  • Um I have taken Katie to a liquor store and used her stroller to hold wine bottles while she walked Embarrassed

Who cares what people think. It is not like you will be buying a case of mad dog : )

  • If I saw you with your 2 young kids, I wouldn't even give you a second look.

Now you have to let us know if you do get side eyes when you run this errand tomorrow.

  • It's a store. You buy stuff.  You leave.  Hardly trashy.  Go for it!

  • I think it depends on how liquor stores are in your area.  In some places, I'd say no big deal AT ALL, but in others, I'd try to avoid it.

Hey if we lived near each other, I'd just give you the bottles of wine that we have instead of you having to go to the wine store every couple of weeks.   I have never ever bought wine.   Any wine we have was usually brought to my house as gifts.  Like tomorrow night I am hosting a Girls Night In (well In for me, but out for them) and a few of them will bring wine- and they usually will leave it with me.   I've lived here 4 years and have never set foot in the liquor store.

  • If you walk out with a 40 in a brown paper bag...that's trashy.

Picking up some nice liquor with your kids is not trashy in my book.

  • We always take Toodle with us to Binny's when we go to buy DH's wine/beer. Never occurred to me to be trashy. It's not like he's drinking it, we just do everything together. If I were going to a sex toy shop or trashy lingerie store (neither on my agenda anytime in the foreseeable future) I might think otherwise, but I don't consider liquor trashy unless you're sitting on a street corner with a brown paper bag drinking it.

    This! LOL.

We have several drive thru liquor stores around here, I would do that.  Not b/c I think it's trashy but that's a lot of glass for 2 little ones.

  • Not trashy at all!

I have my 4 year old niece with me every Friday and have been to the grocery store with her in tow several times.  The last time we were there she asked me, "aren't you going to buy some wine?"  She knows me too well and she doesn't even live with me!

I took her to the liquor store with us once a few months ago to buy some vodka and some wine.  She was dying to know what the vodka was called.  I lied and told her water.

After THREE years, our IVF miracle is here!!!

  • I felt super dirty when I took Ollie to the Drive-Thru liquor store at 11am on a Thursday just before Christmas.  It felt wrong.  But I don't think it actually was wrong, you know?

And honestly, the overall caliber of people at a liquor store isn't that high, right?  They'll probably be impressed that the kids are wearing shoes.

  • Zero or maybe even -1 on a scale of 1 - 10.

Mama's got to get her liquor, right?

  • Not trashy at all! On a related note, though, I felt SUPER trashy when I went to the liquor store while 28 weeks pg to pick up some wine to go to my SIL's (never mind that even though I am no wine snob at ALL, I can't stand the plonk she drinks and was doubly embarrassed to be buying that crap and being visibly pg!)

  • I took DS once and the liquor store guy told me, next time, I could just call ahead and he'd meet me at the car. Needless to say, I never went back!

Go for it and let us know how it goes ;-)

  • Drinking it with them next you, all seated on the sidewalk outside the store, right after buying it?  Trashy.

Buying it with them by your side?  Not trashy.

    :)

I know that in elementary school if not before, my sister and I would accompany my dad, FWIW.

And I cannot count how many wine tastings Kira's been too.  A lot.  Elena will be going to her first soon. ;)  And with those we're drinking right there too!

  • I dont think it's trashy.  I took my 2yo and my big pregnant belly into the liquor store right before christmas.  It was just another errand that I had to run.
