Recommend your light-weight/second car seat

We're going to be getting a second car seat for travel with Jacob and for use in a second car (when we buy one!).  Can you recommend yours?

We have a Britax Marathon as his primary car seat and would definitely like something that is less cumbersome for travel.

Re: Recommend your light-weight/second car seat

  • We have the Britax Roundabout for Jake and really like it. It's smaller than the Marathon and I believe it weighs less. The Marathon was too big for our car when I used that as my primary car.  Now we have a minivan with the roundabout and I still really like it.

  • For a rarely used second car, we have the Evenflo Titan.  It is fine, but you can definitely see a difference between it and the Marathon.  But for travel, look into the Sunshine Kids Radian - we just got one for DD to try to save some room in our backseat with the two kids, and it is pretty small and even folds up for travel.  Still pretty pricey though - but there are sales going on now.

    Good luck!

  • We just got the Cosco Scenera for my mom since she might do a daycare pickup in snowy weather when I can't get there in time.

It's light on the padding so I wouldn't want to use it as a primary seat, but it gets great ratings. And it's super light and super cheap. It was $40 at Target.

  • We got a Combi Coccoro since I was driving a Beetle and needed something small.  It's SUPER lightweight and great for travel (although I'm eyeing a cushier seat for everyday use, now that I have a big car).  It really is tiny and light, though.  And cute!

This is our travel seat as well. Some even come with free carry bags. It's a great seat, just very basic, but SOOOOO light.

ditto for us.  So lightweight and great ratings.  We have it DH's car, which is rarely driven w/kid(s) and always use it for travel.

Yep, same for us.  I will say though that I have better luck getting a tight install in the car with the regular seat belts vs. LATCH.  Not a big deal, but it might be useful info for some.
