Did anyone deliver at Evergreen?

I'm planning on having my baby there (my doctor works there), and I'm looking for some experiences (good and bad!). I actually work for Evergreen (don't worry, I won't be offended!), so everything's paid at 100% through our insurance if I deliver there.

Anyway, stories? Advice? Thanks, ladies!

Re: Did anyone deliver at Evergreen?

  • I delivered there and had a wonderful experience.  I saw the midwives, who are amazing.  The nurses were great during my L&D, respected my birth plan, and did everything in their power to help me deliver my baby vaginally.  If we have a second, I will deliver there again.

  • I did and loved it. I also went with the midwives. I had to have a c-section though  because she was breached and if there weren't 2 other midwife patients delivering at the same time as I was there, she would have stayed with me. DH and I had discussed moving back to CA before we have #2 but I changed my mind for 2 reasons. One of those being I don't want to deliver anywhere else. I have nothing but good things to say about Evergreen.
  • I did, and I had a truly wonderful experience. It was my first so I really didn't know what to expect and everyone made me feel so at ease. All of the nurses were fantastic, especially our triage nurse who came back to check on us multiple times even on her break. The rooms were nice, and big enough for visitors without feeling cramped. When people ask me about my delivery I always say it was awesome and that is mostly because of Evergreen. I absolutely will be going back for the next one.
  • All good experiences here too!

I will say that if you have a c-section, make sure they let you move to the 4th floor for recovery.  The labor and delivery room beds on the main floor are VERY uncomfortable if you're going to be there for any length of time.

Yes I agree 100%, M! I was blown away with the amount of support they provided for you...if I lived up north, I'd deliver there in a heartbeat!

  • I loved it there.  My family has had multiple medical procedures there, and it was an easy choice for me.  I was planning on having my delivery there anyway, and then found out a week before baby arrived that I would be having a c-section, and everything from pre-surgical appt to surgery check-in to hospital check-out was great.

I really liked my OB so I was expecting her to be great through the delivery anyway [and she was!].  The surgical staff, anesthesiologist, nurses, lactation folks - all wonderful.

ETA: What Jill said - the 4th floor rooms were much nicer!

  • I had both of my babies there and wouldn't change a thing about either experience. I felt like I was at a hotel, even during the week in the nicu! We love Evergreen!

This.  I had both of my deliveries there.  And if you end up on hospital bedrest, it sucks but staying there is pretty darn nice!

  • My recovery experiences were good, my deliveries were not. That was mostly due to nurses I just didn't click with but that was two out of many who I did have good experiences with.  I won't go into detail b/c if I talk about what happened w/ delivering DD I get really upset (it actually was a big reason why I had some significant PPD among others) but if you meet the nurse who will be with you through delivery and you don't click - just ask for a new one. I should have I was just in too much pain to think straight when I got there. If you are not happy w/ anyone who is helping you, just ask for someone else.  I do think it's a great place to deliver overall - just be clear about what you need and change it if you aren't feeling the right kind of support.

  • I had a wonderful experience there. My first and we had the same nurse all day long as I came in early to be induced and delivered just before 5pm. It made me feel very comfortable and they did all they could to ensure I was able to follow my birth plan. Being able to have the same nurse all day instead of different people coming and going made a huge difference in our comfort level. During the first night one of the nurses took our little girl for a couple hours so my husband and I could finally get some sleep as she was crying and crying. The staff we encountered were all great.

  • My experience was okay. I have NOTHING bad to say about Evergreen, the facility is nice, and I felt 100% comfortable delivery there along with whoever was delivering my son. But I also went into it knowing that I was going to make the best out of our situation - no matter what. These were my ONLY complaints:

-The bed was AWFUL - seriously, I was in more pain from how much the bed sucked.
-My labor nurse kept asking when I wanted drugs after I told her I didn't want anything. My mom had to pull her aside and tell her NOT to ask me again, that I had a birth plan and I would ask if I wanted something.
    - A few hours after I gave birth, I asked if I could take a shower - my nurse (same as above) told me I couldn't take a shower for 24 hours - WTF?
-The night nurse sucked. She barely spoke english and was very neglectful. After everyone had left, we had no clue what to do (first time parents). We asked her if we were supposed to set an alarm or something to feed the baby...she was, "Uh yeah." That's it. She only came in to take mine & baby's temps - that's it - very cold.
    - We had a difficult time with breastfeeding and EVERY NURSE had a different way of telling me how to do it "right". It was very frustrating trying to learn a new technique and being told I was doing it wrong by 4 different nurses.

The best part was having a great connection from the lactation consultant. Finally, someone that could see my frustration and was very patient with me.  I am delivering at Evergreen again for this pregnancy and will go into it again with the same attitude - it is what it is, and as long as my baby arrives safely, that's all I care about.

  • Loved it!!

Can't wait to go back next time.

  • I had a fabulous experience: I really liked my OB and the doctors in her practice, so that helped, too.

My delivery nurse was great, recovery nurse was great.  We had DD early Friday morning and had to stay until Sunday morning, only because I was Strep+ but my labor was too quick to run the antibiotic during labor.  They needed to keep us for any signs of strep.  So, I got to see a lot of nurses!  In all of my time though, there was only one nurse I was not a fan of.  I think we are SO sensitive after just giving birth, and labor and post partum nurses need to be very nurturing, listen to our needs, and be able to clearly explain what they're doing and why.  When they don't do one of these things, it's difficult for us to deal with.  One of mine just wasn't very clear at explaining things, and it got me unnecessarily worried.

Oh and I LOVED the lactation consultants. LOVED.  Best part about staying at the hospital for an extra day was getting extra advice from them.
