I'm planning on having my baby there (my doctor works there), and I'm looking for some experiences (good and bad!). I actually work for Evergreen (don't worry, I won't be offended!), so everything's paid at 100% through our insurance if I deliver there.
Anyway, stories? Advice? Thanks, ladies!
Re: Did anyone deliver at Evergreen?
All good experiences here too!
I will say that if you have a c-section, make sure they let you move to the 4th floor for recovery. The labor and delivery room beds on the main floor are VERY uncomfortable if you're going to be there for any length of time.
I loved it there. My family has had multiple medical procedures there, and it was an easy choice for me. I was planning on having my delivery there anyway, and then found out a week before baby arrived that I would be having a c-section, and everything from pre-surgical appt to surgery check-in to hospital check-out was great.
I really liked my OB so I was expecting her to be great through the delivery anyway [and she was!]. The surgical staff, anesthesiologist, nurses, lactation folks - all wonderful.
ETA: What Jill said - the 4th floor rooms were much nicer!

This. I had both of my deliveries there. And if you end up on hospital bedrest, it sucks but staying there is pretty darn nice!
Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise.
My experience was okay. I have NOTHING bad to say about Evergreen, the facility is nice, and I felt 100% comfortable delivery there along with whoever was delivering my son. But I also went into it knowing that I was going to make the best out of our situation - no matter what. These were my ONLY complaints:
-The bed was AWFUL - seriously, I was in more pain from how much the bed sucked.
-My labor nurse kept asking when I wanted drugs after I told her I didn't want anything. My mom had to pull her aside and tell her NOT to ask me again, that I had a birth plan and I would ask if I wanted something.
- A few hours after I gave birth, I asked if I could take a shower - my nurse (same as above) told me I couldn't take a shower for 24 hours - WTF?
-The night nurse sucked. She barely spoke english and was very neglectful. After everyone had left, we had no clue what to do (first time parents). We asked her if we were supposed to set an alarm or something to feed the baby...she was, "Uh yeah." That's it. She only came in to take mine & baby's temps - that's it - very cold.
- We had a difficult time with breastfeeding and EVERY NURSE had a different way of telling me how to do it "right". It was very frustrating trying to learn a new technique and being told I was doing it wrong by 4 different nurses.
The best part was having a great connection from the lactation consultant. Finally, someone that could see my frustration and was very patient with me. I am delivering at Evergreen again for this pregnancy and will go into it again with the same attitude - it is what it is, and as long as my baby arrives safely, that's all I care about.
Loved it!!
Can't wait to go back next time.
I had a fabulous experience: I really liked my OB and the doctors in her practice, so that helped, too.
My delivery nurse was great, recovery nurse was great. We had DD early Friday morning and had to stay until Sunday morning, only because I was Strep+ but my labor was too quick to run the antibiotic during labor. They needed to keep us for any signs of strep. So, I got to see a lot of nurses! In all of my time though, there was only one nurse I was not a fan of. I think we are SO sensitive after just giving birth, and labor and post partum nurses need to be very nurturing, listen to our needs, and be able to clearly explain what they're doing and why. When they don't do one of these things, it's difficult for us to deal with. One of mine just wasn't very clear at explaining things, and it got me unnecessarily worried.
Oh and I LOVED the lactation consultants. LOVED. Best part about staying at the hospital for an extra day was getting extra advice from them.
