I gained 9 lbs during pregnancy which I lost pretty much the same week I gave birth.
Fast forward 5 months into BFing and I am at the same weight I was when I was 9 months pregnant....WTF?? I know that I am eating a lot more to sustain not only me but DD, however I cannot seem to be able to control how much is too much as far as eating.
I am also trying to keep up on a daily gym routine but with school full time I tend to skip some evenings.
What are you doing to keep lean while BFing. Are there any good diets to follow? I have not introduced solids yet so all DD gets is BM.
TIA ladies
Re: BFing and gaining weight
Have you taken the weight of your breasts into consideration? I feel like my breasts are much heavier than before.
I'm 10lbs less than I was pp, but I didn't get there until I cut out dairy. When I did the weight fell off.
Also, could you be about to start your period? I just had mine despite exclusively BFing and I did bloat up and gain a few lbs because of it. Fluctuating 5lbs or so is normal.
I've been doing Zumba (right here at home) and spinning, too.
Also, for snacks, I eat a lot of them! And I mean a lot, but I do things like almonds mixed with dried cranberries, organic fruit rollups, fresh tomatoes and fresh mozzarella and olive oil with mint leaves, avocado and hummus. I shovel it all in, but I just figure the healthier the snacks, the easier it will be for me and for her. (I still eat junky stuff from time to time though!)
Man, if I could do this I would be golden!
I wish I could help but I am also in the same boat. I gained 16 pounds with my pregnancy lost all of that and then an additional 15 pounds and then went back up 8 pounds. I am trying to eat as healthy as I can and be as active as I can but its not helping. Unlike the pp I did try weight watchers for about a month I lost weight but my milk supply then started to deminish so I quickly stopped that. I would love to see if anyone else has some suggestions because I too would like to lose some more weight as I was overweight to begin with.
I'm pretty sure I'd just die if I were you.
I'm going to start assuming each breast weighs 10 lbs. That puts me right about where I should be!
Honestly though - I'm right there too - I cannot lose weight. I know some women hold onto it until they wean - it's just natural protection in case hard times hit. For me it doesn't seem to matter how much/little/what I eat - I'm staying the exact same weight, but if I cut back too much, I can tell if affects my supply. So, since nothing is helping or hurting, I'm going to enjoy the next few months and try again when DS starts nursing less and I don't need to be as concerned about my supply. Cookies, here I come!
Same boat here. I gained about 33, lost 30, but now I'm up 5 again. So about 8 lbs from prepregnancy weight.
I mean, in the grand scheme of things it's not that bad, but it's just annoying to lose it and then gain it back. However, I'm BF'ing too and I have a voracious hunger at times. I just roll with it and try to make good food choices.
