Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What is your 2 month old's routine?

Or daily life look like?

I have a baby who does not nap unless I run him around (like go shopping or out to lunch). It is so frustrating! I have tried a few things but generally he will only fall asleep if my nipple is in his mouth (a paci doesn't cut it) and will stay asleep only if he is on me. If he is in the crib, he will wake up after 20 minutes.

  • Do you swaddle? Swaddling is the only way that my little one will fall asleep. Have you tried the Happiest Baby on the Block methods? This was a lifesaver for me! I swaddle her and put her in the swing for bedtime and naps. I recently started putting her in the crib for naps since she will be in a crib at daycare, but she is still swaddled.

  • My son is the same. He sleeps well during the day if he is in his car seat and we are going places. If we are home all day he is awake all day. He might take short 10 minute naps here or there but that's it.

Swaddling doesn't do anything for him. It's not that he hates being swaddled or anything but it just doesn't make any difference for him.

He has a pretty good routine at night though. Goes to bed at 9:30-10 after having a bath and a feeding. Then he gets up at 2am, and 5am to feed, then is up at around 7:30.

  • So reading the pp's, I'm wondering if the napping thing is due to age?  DD sleeps for at MOST 30 minutes three times a day (usually morning, early afternoon, then 6pm).  She just won't sleep any longer than that, but she's doing great at night.  It'd be nice if she would nap more - I could use a break sometime!  Glad my LO isn't the only non napper.
  • DD's normal schedule is something like this: wake up around 830-9 am. Eat, cuddle with mommy for a while, nap for about 90 minutes in swing, Wake up, eat, play, eat, play, eat, nap in swing for 60-90 minutes, wake up, play, get a bath, eat, sleep (somewhere around 10pm).

So basically, she STTN, then takes a decent morning nap and a decent evening nap, but is up most of the afternoon. She'll occasionally take 10-15 minute cat naps throughout the afternoon but she's pretty much awake. She will only nap in her swing though, with the nature sounds on... if I turn them off she wakes up and screams at me. lol.

  • we've just started a routine for DS. He goes to bed around 10pm, then he is up anywhere between 6:30-8:30am (after getting up 1-2 times to feed through the night). Then some days he's up and playing all morning (for about 2-3 hours) then a feed, then some more play, then naps. Sometimes he'll nap all afternoon (like 3-5 hours). Then he's awake & alert for most of the evening. Which is good for bonding time with dad.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he's in any sort of routine yet though, because some days he will sleep most of the afternoon (for instance today, it's  almost 5pm now, and he's been asleep since 12:30pm), and other days he won't settle & nap at all. So it's hit and miss. He hasn't been as playful in the mornings lately, and has been a little fussy off and on all day, and sleeping more. So I wonder if he's working through a developmental stage or something.

  • She wakes anywhere between 7 and 8:30, we feed, play and then she's asleep again by about 9 or 10, sleeps for about 45 minutes.  Then we feed, play again and then she sleeps for a longer time, about 2 hours, usually wakes up around 3.  Repeat feed, play, another short nap around 5 for about 45 minutes.  She's fast asleep by 8 and sometimes sleeps til morning, other times she wakes up once per night around 4 for a quick feeding.  It's a pretty good routine.
