I usually do around 6-8 miles a day at a pretty good clip. How much would you think I should slow down for my first tri.? I ran too much with DD and ended up with a bleed and on bedrest... don't want to make that mistake again. I just feel like I don't know how much is too much and my OBGYN just tells me to listen to my body. Well my body feels awesome, but it did last time, too, and that almost ended very badly. So like I should jog for 30 minutes and call it a day? Run at my normal pace but for less time? Walks only? Thoughts?? TIA~
Re: If you are a serious runner...
I don't have an answer for you--I wish I felt awesome at 18/19/20 weeks and could still run 3 miles in one clip. For me, my body started to naturally reduce in speed and mileage. I'm now 24 weeks and I do interval running 2 minutes on and 2 minutes off for 2.5 miles. I want to do more and I think I will start to up my mileage a bit---but I just take it easy.
Maybe reduce your speed gradually and start walking more? Run 2 to 3 miles, walk a mile, run again? I'm not sure--I'm just surprised that you haven't felt winded or tired running, epically as you progressed throughout your pregnancy.
This. I have continued to run what I normally would have run without being pregnant. However my pace has naturally decreased and I am now running about a 1-1 1/2 minutes slower per mile than pre-pregnancy.
As PP said, listen to your body. Don't push yourself any harder on a long run than you would have not being pregnant. If you feel fine than you are listening to your body and there really isn't anything else you can do. Maybe the bleeding/bed rest was a "fluke" that would have happened anyway and wasn't related to your running? Maybe it was related, there is no way to know now. Just do what you feel comfortable with and won't have any regrets with if complication were to arise.
I guess if I was you I would decrease my mileage a little bit due to your previous complications maybe 3-5 miles, instead of 6-8 and decrease my pace by a minute, so your doing 9 minute miles instead of 8 minutes or something like that.
Good Luck!
