Entertaining and feeding 5.5 month old

I need help on entertaining Asha - she is not content in her swing or crib - she fell out of her bouncer yesterday so we have to retire that unless supervised and she is not into her playmat at all - we have baby's first blocks but she isn't interested - she does like baby Einstein a little so we use that in the car - what else should I be doing? I need ideas for creative learning activities Foodwise we have done: applesauce, bananas, carrots, avocados, pears, sweet potatoes so far. I am going to do peas and squash next. I've been doing jarred food but can I switch to cooking/mashing it with a fork? I have to cook everything except bananas and avocados right? What's next for foods? Can start mummums and yogurt? I also want to do broccoli, peaches, chickpeas and rice(not cereal).

  • My girls LOVE those plastic easter eggs. Seriously, we put them in a basket and they just shove/toss/grab/throw them all around. We also put some corn kernels in a few of them and they love fishing for those and then shaking them once they find them. Its cute.

As for feeding. I follow wholesomebabyfood.com. Its my guide. I do everything they say. :-)

  • I don't know if this works for you or not, but Maya is at that age needing to be constantly stimulated as well, and her favorite entertainment ever is when I wrap her up and wear her in my wrap or sling and just do regular mundane housework kind of things. Most times she just falls asleep on my after awhile, but if I wrap her on my back, she will sit there quietly engaged for HOURS without a peep. I can get done what I need to do and she is happy.

Her other favorite thing right now is us getting down on the floor and doing physical interactive things, mostly made up silly games, up and down, fly through the air, So Big, kind of things. But really, wearing her, that works everytime.

As for feeding, we give her raw and organic stuff, anything we can find. She currently LOVES raw red bell pepper strips, closely followed by tomato strips and raw broccoli. You don't have to cook everything. I cook the meat we give her, obviously, sometimes the veggies,  and roast the sweet potatoes, cook some stuff, but she gets a lot of things raw.

Just make sure to stay away from things that have salt in them. Their kidneys can't process salt very well, so we just stick to unprocessed foods.

  • I just signed up for a daily activity from "productiveparenting.com"...lots of ideas for things to do with your baby, things tied to their developmental level. :)  I spend a lot of time just sitting on the floor with Jones sitting between my legs...and we play with his toys.  He also likes to look in the mirror, listen to us sing songs (we often have him "dance" to the songs), play wiht my hands..seriously, he could examine my hands for an hour at a time when he's in a chill mood.
  • Is she sitting yet?  Ivy was pretty into banging her stacking cups at that age (and still is).
