you mean I just had to ask?!?!? (STTN)

Last night Ollie STTN for the first time since July (and only the 3rd time in his life). And get this - he didn't do it because of CIO or NCSS or anything like that. He did it because I ASKED him to!!!

Ok, so maybe it was a coincidence, but I really don't think so. His first waking has been earlier and earlier the past week. So the last 2 nights when he woke up (at 12:30 - 1am) I withheld nursing for awhile before eventually explaining to him that if he nursed now that was it, he needed to sleep the rest of the night in his bed without calling for me. And he did. (Usually if he wakes up that early I'm in for at least 1 if not 2 more wakings.)

So yesterday I talked to him 2 or 3 times during the day about how when Ollie goes night night, mommy has to go night night and the boobies need to go night night too. Over and over I talked with him about how we all need to sleep until morning time and how he shouldn't call for me at night. At some point he started saying "Ollie. Mommy. Boobies." Like he was checking that they all had to sleep. Right before he went to bed I told him again that we all needed to sleep all night until the morning. AND THEN HE DID IT!

I don't think for a second this is the end of this battle, but holy cow - breakthrough! I really do think it was because we talked about it. And you better believe we're going to talk more about it today! Big Smile

(Oh and I just found out he *still* has an ear infection (first diagnosed December 28th) on top of his yeast diaper rash. So frankly it's understandable if he isn't STTN right now anyway.)

Yay Ollie!! That is one nice thing about toddlers is that they are starting to understand directions and can understand how to follow them. Keep the talking up and hopefully the sleeping will keep up. I bet you feel like a new woman with a whole night of sleep. We have been having night waking due to cutting molars and I had my 2nd night in a row of no waking and it is amazing how good I feel.

You are definitely onto something. We have friends whose daughter won't stay in bed all night unless they specificially ask her if she will and she says yes.

Wow, that is impressive! I'm sorry about his ear too, Toodle is going through the same thing, double infection diagnosed 12/28, at recheck, one was still infected so he had a second round of antibiotics, and just had his second recheck and that one is STILL infected.

Hope Ollie's ear is better soon and his sleep continues to be improved!
