TEEN MOM 2 - JUICE

MRSJMB - I saw you comment on 12-24 and got hounded that you were being too judgy talking about the two moms that gave their kids juice.  I saw it the first time on there and I was like whoa - juice?!  And then the 2nd time I was like no way.  And then the bottle in bed with Jace was the last straw.  I totally agree with you but I guess I got lucky in that Clark doesnt need a bottle anymore to fall asleep.  I know my SIL gives one to her DS at least for naps not sure about at night ....I dont like the whole extra things in the crib let alone a bottle!  My parents gave me way too much apple juice as a toddler and I had a ton of work done.....my mom said keep Clark away from juice to me I dont know how many times :)

Anyone else see this weeks episode?

  • I haven't seen it yet, but it's on my DVR.

My child has never even tried juice to my knowledge.

  • Yeah I started some sh*t over there for sure.  Oh well.  I've never done that before ... and yeah I'm judging.  Those babies are way younger than mine and seemingly not constipated and they're just giving them bottles of juice-for what?

At least some people came to my defense.  I don't want my kid's teeth to rot out.  Sue me.  After I had a long talk with the dentist yesterday he was talking about all that kind of stuff and how you couldn't imagine the stuff he sees and how hard it is to work on kids that age.  They have kids 2-3 years old with cavities and rotting teeth coming in there.

I'm not  saying M never gets juice. She gets it at daycare I think a couple times a week.  We don't offer it at home because I know she gets it elsewhere.

  • Clark has had apple and pear juice but we have mixed it with so much water he probably cant even tell there is juice in it!  But we only do that at breakfast and when he was super constipated.
  • I had the same reaction. You can tell it was pure juice too! My boys never had a bottle with their naps or bedtime. They only had their milk with meals/snacks. I got pissed off at FIL the other day when he watched the boys bc he only had them drink orange juice. I had TWO 9oz cups with milk for them each. They did not get any of it.

OMG!  I would be totally pissed off. He had milk to give them - why would he give them OJ?  I dont think Clark would even drink the OJ.

  • I don't watch the show and have no idea how old the children are who were drinking juice, but thought I'd use this opportunity to share.  My parents are constantly telling me to give my LO juice or water (I still only breastfeed).  She is 7.5 months. I don't understand it.  There is absolutely no reason for her to have it.  I don't judge others who give juice (especially when it is mixed with mostly water), but because I'm not giving it to her, I'm somehow depriving her.  We had some issues where she wasn't feeling the best (teething and a stomach bug).  My parents kept saying that she wasn't eating the milk because she wanted something different and that I should give her juice.  Really?  Because she's tasted it before and that's what she wants.  It's so frustrating.

The kids in the show are all younger than a year.  Probably closer to 6-7 months I'd say.

And your parents sound like my ILs.

He claimed they did not want any. Ummm, my kids LOVE milk. I offered the milk while we left in the car and they chugged it all down in less than 5min! They seem to never drink milk while they are over there. I always get a full cup back.

  • I noticed it too.  I am so anti-juice it's not even funny.  Jackson is allowed to have orange juice now, on occasion, but it's a recent addition to his diet.  And the bottle in the crib horrified me.  I was screeching at the TV about the juice and the bottle in bed.

What's odd to me is that a lot of what these girls do is clearly influenced by their parents, but their parents aren't that old.  It seems like a lot of things they do would be stuff my grandma would suggest, not my mom.  I mean, take juice, for example - my mom gave us juice when we were little (over a year for sure though) but it was so watered down that it was basically water with a splash of juice.  To this day, my brothers and I do not drink really sugary drinks because we don't like the taste - if I make lemonade for example, I water it down so much because that's the taste I like.  Anyway, I'll be 30 this year and my mom is in her mid-50s.

  • I totally judged too. You could tell it was straight juice and not watered down, regardless of whether they would claim it was for constipation or whatever.

I'm not surprised though because I see things on the show that are unsafe all the time. Almost every time I see a carseat, there's something unsafe about it.

  • We're a no juice house too.  Our family thinks we're depriving her or something.  Of course, some of them put soda in sippy cups...
