S/O not knowing baby names

My cousin at Thanks Giving last year got asked how they decided on his daughters name.

He looked at his wife and asked her "Yes?? How did we end up with a Zoey? I thought we were bringing home an Alexandria??

Apparently THEY had decided on a name and she had in the back of her head she was going to name the baby Zoey anyways when he was out of the room.

Issues anyone?

  • mmmmmmmmmhmmmm.

I have a cousin who legally changed his name so his son could be a Junior. The mother calls him the middle name, my cousin calls him Junior, and my aunt/cousins call him the first name. Confusing?

I also have a cousin who named his daughter after a classification of marijuana. Klassy bunch over here.

  • I have a friend that they have 4 G's Big G, little G, GG, and the one that never comes round. LOL her son is a G, her niece she raised as her daughter married a G, and both guys wanted a jr.
  • Yea, that would never fly with my DH!

    Big E (6) & Little E (2.5)

  • A part of me think moms know. My mom and dad had agreed on a name for me going into the hospital and when he left to go home my mom changed it. She said she just knew when she saw me that it wasn't my name & my dad found out when he came back.. lol

I never understood that until I was pregnant and knew in the back of my head what my DD's name should be. Even though I had a lot of neg reactions on it when we saw her I knew it should be Camila. Luckily DH was there & agreed :)

  • That's messed up. DH and I go with a list of names and we decide together what to name *our* children. There's no autonomy in that decision. Not to us. And if I had pulled that on DH or vice versa there would be some hurt feelings.
  • I honestly wish I would have done that cause to be honest I really do not like my son's name.

I was team green and for my whole pregnancy I could not think of a single boy name that I liked. Well, when he was born I just decided to make him a junior and now I regret that. Then after the papers were all filled out and we were on our way home a name hit me! And now I wish I could change it to Anthony Ryan instead of Joel Ryan. At least I got half a name a like.

I have a friend who actually started out as an Eric, and his parents changed it after they got home to Benjamin.

But yes - changing your child's name w/o your SO's input (assuming they plan on being a part of the child's life) is a big no no.

One of my niece's is named Mary Jane and her sister's middle name is an alcoholic beverage.  Mmm-hmmm.

I agree. But right now we are on the "is daddy gonna be around" boat.

Yeah - that changes things a bit.

  • When DD3 was born we had a name picked out. I added to her middle name when he wasn't there on the birth certificate. I wanted Victoria he wandted Desea. So I made it Victoria-Desea. He didn't know until about 2 hours later. He got over it.

If this is a girl I want Martiya as a middle name and he just wants to stick with Star. I am sure it will end up being Martiya-Star if we can't agree and I think he knows that.

First names, we either agree 100% or not. We don't usually  have a hard time with that though.

Maybe this time put his choice as the first part of the middle name? You both get what you want, and he would get first billing 2nd time around.
