Does your LO drink organic milk?

A co-worker (who is pregnant) and I were talking about this today. During the summer we used more organic produce because we found it at our local farmers market, but we've never used organic milk. Logan will be switching to milk soon so I guess it's something we should start thinking about.

Re: Does your LO drink organic milk?

  • Yes -- almost.  We get milk delivered from a local dairy and the only reason it's not certified organic is the feed is not organic, just locally produced.  But no growth hormones or antibiotics which were my bigger concerns.  If I were buying from a store, it would be organic.  I try to use as much organic as possible for the kids' stuff.

  • Yes. I have huge concerns about hormones in milk. And I don't want to support the use of prophylactic antibiotics.

  • Yes, organic whole milk. Too many hormones in regular milk.

  • Yes, as do DH and I.  It's more expensive, but it's worth it to me.  Plus, I think it tastes better.
  • Yup....and if you go to Sam's Club or Costco they both sell it fairly cheap.

on a side note: I can not wait to switch to milk for Jack and be done with expensive formula!!!! We are THISCLOSE Shannon!!! Yes

  • Yes - Ellie is currently on soy milk and we buy organic.  Hopefully, we'll be able to switch her to regular whole milk soon, and then like Pesky, she will get milk from a local dairy that is pesticide/hormone free etc. but doesn't spend the big $$ to get the organic label.  Mmmm, their milk is yummy and their ice cream - wow.  But I have the same concerns that the pp have talked about.
  • We use to.  But we buy milk from a local farm now for the older boys.  But Keegan is on a special supplement.  Man right now, oranic whole milk would be cheaper than this supplement that has everything artificial in it!

  • Yes. The hormones in milk scare me. We didn't drink organic before Sydney but now DH and I do too. I try to find organic poultry and beef when possible, but milk is our main concern.

  • Nearly all of our dairy and produce are organic. I know it's more expensive but I just close my eyes and reach into the refrigerator case. It feels like the right thing to do.

  • Since I have not looked into this before, please help educate me.  What is the difference between organic and hormone free?  I did look the milk we buy up and it is hormone free but I'm not sure if that makes it organic.  TIA

  • Yes! Not everything he consumes is organic, but milk is one of the most important things to go organic with because of the hormones in regular milk. We started getting organic milk long before M came along.
  • Absolutely yes.  Even when we don't splurge on other stuff, we splurge on that.  :)

  • Yes.  I am freaked out by all the antibiotics and hormones.  Especially after watching several documentaries.  We buy it from Costco so it's not outrageously expensive.
  • We are still undecided on this.  Our pedi said she doesn't worry about it with her own kids.  We still have another week to make our own decision.

  • Yes.  We get Aaron the store brand organic (either Shop Rite supermarket or Target's) that has the Omega 3 and DHA in it (like his formula did). I have issues with the artificial hormones and have switched to organic for myself. I don't buy organic produce or other organic products due to cost, but for milk I wanted to go that route.

Not that Aaron drinks much milk any longer (due to my refusing to give it to him in a bottle) but I use it to make his mac & cheese, for his cereal and for the little milk he DOES drink in a cup.  And his yogurt is organic (YoBaby).

  • I considered it because I was concerned about hormones. Although nobody could point me to an actual scientific study - just refer me to articles that were not scientific. But I found out our grocery store's milk comes from cows not treated with hormones. Look at your store's label. A lot of store milk is going that way.
