Poll: How long ago was your last raise?

2 years for me. My company is doing more than fine right now (I see the numbers, I know what's going on financially). They used to give raises in January so we are all patiently awaiting the news but with the month almost over, it probably won't happen. While I'm grateful to have a job, it just sucks that the employers have the upper hand now.

So what about you? When was your last raise?

Re: Poll: How long ago was your last raise?

  • over the summer, but I also got a promotion when our company was bought out so it all rolled in with that.

In theory I'll get something again this summer but I'm not expecting much.

  • Last summer, but it came with a promotion. The organization I work for (a university) usually gives an annual 1 or 2% increase that every employee gets most years. All of my raises here have come with promotions. I'm really not good at negotiating raises/salary, but have received a few promotions in my 4 1/2 years here, so I've lucked out that I don't need to ask. Plus, what I make is actually pretty good for my field and responsibilities.

  • October, but it was minimal, way smaller than my company historically pays out. Prior to that, we had a salary freeze for nearly 2 years, though I did get a promotion about 18 months ago which helped.
  • 2 years ago. We had a pay freeze last year, as well as removal of vacation time and 401K matching. Thankfully the vacay and 401K are back. I'll get my annual 2% raise next year.

Another question: how much is your average raise (%)?

  • I'm a teacher, so we get a little more with each year of experience.  I should get a more substantial raise starting next August because I recently completed my Master's degree.

  • we got one in August.  we're under a union ... most hospitals are here.  so they don't do performance based raises (which I think is redic).  there's a base, then amt's for each year of experience... also added amounts for off shifts, certifications, critical care, etc.  so I get a slight raise with my work anniversary date in July every year (b/c I bump up a notch in the pay chart) and then they did a base COL raise last aug... I think the base salary for full time  went up by 2K.  Over the last 2 1/2 years, my hourly wage has gone up by about $4.50.so my part time salary went up by almost 5.5K over 2 1/2yrs... I work 0.6 of full time.
  • About 4 jobs and 10+ years ago.

Granted, my pay has gone up slightly with every new job.  And in my current position (here 3 1/2 years) I was given a decent bump in salary to keep me after putting in my 2 weeks, although I wouldn't consider it a raise... it was more of a "Please don't go the place will burn down without you so we'll match the pay and up your benefits so you'll stay" which I fell for and never got anything that was promised.  We've had 2 pay cuts in the past 3 years as well.

Basically I am only making 20% a year than I was first year out of high school and with no degree.

  • I got a small raise in March of 2008 (they call it a merit increase, but I really just considered it a cost of living increase).  In Feb of 2009 everyone took a 6% pay decrease.  They us that we should consider the 6% decrease permanent and that they might consider merit increases again sometime this summer (although we heard that last summer too so I am not holding my breath).  I really wish some jobs in my field would open up.  I am so over this place.  Did I mention that my work load has doubled??
  • A very small one 2.5 years ago, I am not holding my breath for this year.

At the company I work for now, prior to the salary freeze it was a COL increase of 2-4%. I would be happy with 3%!!!!!

Historically, annual raises have been around 10%, and promotions come with a ~30% increase depending (base pay is fixed by level). Pay grade hasn't changed for promotions, but raises are now around 3% for this year, following our 2 year salary freeze. People aren't happy given that the company is doing well, but hey, at least it's something.

  • last year but it had been frozen for 2 years before that.

  • October of 2007 I got a promotion and a big raise.  May of 2008 I took a 15% paycut for a job in the suburbs at a start-up.  Haven't had a raise since then.  I better be getting one this year - have yet to hear.  WIll probably find out next month.
  • January 1.  I also got a promotion and a raise over the summer.
  • 2 years when I started with my current firm.  Last year I made my hours but there was a salary freeze.  We don't know about this year, but I am not expecting anything because I didn't make my hours mostly because of pregnancy.  So it probably won't be for another year that we will even talk about it.

  • Two years ago and I have no expectations for another one any time soon due to the economy.

  • I work for a private company and it's been since Winter of 2007.  This is exactly around the time that everything in Fl started crumbling.
  • November 2009 - We usually get a raise every November but not this past year.  I think it's the first time we never got a raise according to my CW who's been here the longest.

  • I'm a teacher and usually get a raise every year for experience (and the pay scale also goes up every few years for COL). Last year it was frozen though so no increase at all.

  • We have been on a freeze for two years. I would love a raise, so I'm changing jobs (no chance of an increase here!).

  • 8.75% this month which was part of a promotion from publisher to senior publisher.  I also get a small pay bump every July but that is 2-3%.
  • The beginning of the last fiscal year, July.  They were very small 3% I think, but better than nothing.

  • 2.5 years ago. Our raises come at the beginning of our fiscal year, which starts July 1. Who knows what's in store for this year. They SAID that they would not do another consecutive year without raises. Morale is in the toilet so I'm hoping they stick to their word.

ETA: The most I've ever received was a 3% raise, usually it's 2%...and we don't do merit based raises. They contemplated it a few years ago and they received so much pushback that they abandoned the idea. In addition, we're all doing the work of at least 2 if not 3 positions at this point. The ED openly admitted in a board meeting that I was present at the other day that we're understaffed and stretched too thin.

  • Three years ago (February 2008).  In February 2009, they decided to move the review/increase period to summers so we were supposed to get raises in August 2009.  Then they cancelled them altogether that year.  In August 2010 we were again supposed to get raises and they were cancelled.  Again.  Angry  I know I shouldn't complain since I am lucky to still have a job... but ARGH!

  • I got a 2% increase this summer. But the previous year all salary employees were required to take a 2.5% pay decrease and a week off unpaid. Last year I was just excited to make my full salary, a raise was a very unexpected bonus.
