We all had colds over the weekend and I think/hope we are over the worst of it. However, Annie has this phlegmy-sounding cough that is lingering. When do I call the pedi?
fwiw, I called on Monday and they said not to bring her in until she's running a fever (she's not), not eating (she is), or in poor spirits (maybe a little tired, but generally still happy). I know that if it changes (like gets more like a bark) I would take her in in a minute as well.
Could the cough just be normal? It sounds terrible, but I think that's mostly because I hate to hear her so congested and not 100%!
Re: coughing LOs
K has had that same type of cough for 2 weeks now and I've asked the pedi several times and have always gotten the same answer that if she's not having trouble breathing or it doesn't sound like a barking seal, then there is not much they can do.
I asked on here last week for recs on what to give and several rec'd some cough/cold med with honey in it.
K still has a terrible cough and is coughing up stuff, but it just sounds so terrible so I can empathize.

Paige got her first really bad cold at her first birthday party (thanks little germy friends!). The sinus stuff lasted a week or so, but the cough lingered on for MONTHS. She was happy, eating fine, but overnight, she'd have 1-2 coughing spells that would last 10 minutes (she wouldn't really wake up from them, just cough). Same as PP, pedi kept saying there was nothing they could do for it. I just remember feeling awful. It went on for at least two months.
I sort-of wanted to kill the mom (DH's cousin) of the 5-month-old who insisted she wasn't sick, it was "just allergies." Uh-huh.
It finally went away on it's own. Ugh.
Whenever Ella gets a cough, we deal with the same issue. I always think it sounds much worse than it really is. I just feel bad because she'll cough all. night. long. even though it doesn't really wake her up.
Hope J feels better soon! (ETA: And by "J", I mean "A"! You're J. She's A.)
Andrew has a pretty bad cough usually up until 2 weeks after the start of a cold. I've taken him to med check a few times when I thought it sounded terrible and it was okay. They told me this was normal and if things persist beyond 2 weeks, to take him in.
Obviously follow your gut here - or if she exhibits the other things you mentioned.
Thanks for the reassurance and support, all. It's a relief just knowing that others have gone through these kinds of things. Her cough is exactly as you all described, and quite frankly, it could also be associated with teething too.
We'll keep doing what we're doing and just hope that it goes away soon!
I would just watch for the symptoms your doctors office told you.
I wouldn't use the OTC honey cough med. Babies <1 shouldn't be given honey.
I hope she starts feeling better!
