Strollers for Disney World

We just found out my in-laws want to take us to Disney World in April. I've been told it's cheaper to buy a new stroller than rent one at the park. I would imagine we'll need a comfy one for sleeping but an easy and functional one to deal with. Any suggestions? We have a Jeep umbrella stroller but DD hates to sleep in it.

Re: Strollers for Disney World

  • I would just take the one you have. Unless you really need her to sleep in the stroller. And if that's the case, how much are you willing to spend?

  • i have been researching a future disney trip--we would have a 5 and 2 year old--so strollers is something i have researched--on mousesavers.com and at travelingplans (or is it touringplans) they list a couple stroller rental places based in orlando that will deliver a stroller (umbrella style) to your hotel and pick it up when you are done.  you can then use it all over versus just at a disney theme park!   and it seems like the rental is pretty cheap as well.  something to look into anyway because from what i have read/researched renting at the parks seems like a waste-uncomfy strollers that all the look the same (and can thus be mistaken by others) and you can only use them at the park-so making you carry a tired child to a car etc
  • When we went we didnt use an actual stroller but a stroller type thingy. It was a two plastic seats with umbrellas over it. the kids loved it and slept in them. we had 2 2yr olds. it was only 5 dollars to rent for the whole day./

  • We used our umbrella stroller at Disney and it worked great. The ones for rent at the park are huge and bulky.
  • We bought a Chicco Liteway for our Disney trip in November.  We wanted something with a good recline for napping.  We bought a Protect a Bub 3 in 1 shade for it so we could provide some dark/quiet.  They worked well together, although the Protect a Bub doesn't really fit my Maclaren stroller.

The Liteway had two features that I really liked.  1) The front wheels pop off easy.  Stroller theft isn't common at WDW, but its not uncommon either.  We would just pop off a wheel and throw it in our bag.  2) The "basket" is actually a string backpack.  It is tough to get unsnapped, so we never took it off, however it was nice to be able to "hide" things inside the pouch of the backpack.

  • We have been to disney every for the past 5 years. We have rented the double strollers and will not do that ever again because I felt the strollers were not that comfortable for the kids. You are better off just bringing your own that your child is already comfortable.

I think the single are somewhere around 15 to 20 a day.

FYI they offere a discount if you rent the stroller and prepay for your entire trip but keep in mind you can only use them at the parks so you will not be able to use them at the resorts or downtown disney. So again you better bringing your own unless you had an older child that you were using it for some resting.

  • We took our Bugaboo to Disney- it's the best stroller ever, but not cheap. I would suggest either a Baby Jogger City Mini- super easy to fold and very easy to push- or a nice jogger like a BOB. Either one you would get a lot of use after Disney.

  • We brought our regular stroller last year and I will do the same this year. We needed it for the airport. I have a Peg Perego Aria & love it.

  • We just got back from Disney World!  DD#1 went (DD#2 stayed home with Grandma).  We took our lightweight umbrella stroller, which has a decent enough recline that she passed out and took an unplanned 2 1/2 hour nap!  (I thought we were going to go nap-free that day!)  In the past, when we took both (when DD#1 was 2 1/2 and DD#2 was 3 months) we took our double BOB, and it was great.  Tough to manage dense crowds, but so comfy for the girls.

As a side note, we got totally poured on while we were there.  And February is a lower rain month for Florida!  So invest in one of the rain covers for whatever stroller you bring.  We forgot ours and ended up buying DD a poncho:)

  • I've been tot Disney 2 times already and DD is only 1! The strollers to rent from Disney are pretty crappy but there is a company MAgic Stollers that rents out normal ones. You can check Mouse savers for some coupons.

I bring our Maclaren Triumph DD likes being at an angle so it's perfect.I don;t see why the jeep one wouldn't work. She might just pass out in it and not care.
