17 lbs in 2 weeks

my last ob appt was 2 weeks ago.  I had one today and I gained 17 lbs.  I am really swollen on my legs and hands.  My BP was fine and no protein in my urine.  The doc told me to feel bad about the weight gain because there was really nothing I could do since it was all water.  My legs are like twice the size they usually are.  I feel so bad about gainin so much weight. Has anybody experienced something similar?

Re: 17 lbs in 2 weeks

  • I too am retaining a ton of water. Although I have not gained as much. My BP is normal and no protein in my urine either, but my hands and feet look like marshmallows according to my DH. The thing I hate the most is that numb/tightness feeling.

  • I think that I am carrying at least 10lbs in water weight... going to MW tomorrow... let's see if it is even more then that now. My legs, ankles and feet are rock hard with edema.

Haha...this is exactly how I've been explaining what my feet look like to everyone.  I hate it!  And yes, the tightness is the worst.

I'm dreading getting on the scale at my Dr. appt. tomorrow!

  • I went in for my appointment today and found out I lost few pounds since my previous one, BUT I gained a lot of weight between my appt. 8 weeks ago and my appt. 6 weeks ago, and haven't gained since then. Everyone is different. If your OB says not to worry, then try not to.

I'm not sure how much I've gained in water weight, but holy cankles. My calves and ankles are ginormous with water. Taking baths has helped.

     Please don't feel bad!

  • I retained tons of water with my first pregnancy.  I can tell you that within 2 weeks I'd lost like 40lbs - I swear 1/2 water and 1/2 baby :)
