I just received a booster seat for my baby shower...from my MIL (something along the lines of this), even though I have a high chair on my registry.
Does the booster replace the high chair or do I need both? Is the booster for when he is older and the high chair used for when he is younger?
Re: stupid high chair question
j has that at my parents' house and he seems to like it but since we don't use it full time and didn't have a "normal" highchair I don't really know how it compares to others. She really likes it.
I like the fact that he can sit at the table with it like he does at home but I know my mom usually attaches it to a dining room chair and moves him into the kitchen to watch her cook and so she gets good use out of the included tray.
It can, if you want it to. We got that booster when Libby was just starting to sit (at 5 months) and took it back because her legs were too chubby for it and she was already on the largest adjustment for the tray. I didn't see it growing with her...even though it says it goes up to 36 months (she's in 24 month clothes right now...>95% for weight and height).
We ended up getting the Keekaroo Height Right High Chair off Overstock.com and are super happy with that puchase. We've already had to adjust the seat and foot support height since she started using it at 6 months and I am glad we have a system that will grow with her.

Great points!
I suppose it's going to depend on his size and if he ends up being too big for it. I think the booster is good for a space saver for sure so I don't have the high chair sitting around. I was thinking of taking the high chair off the registry after reading your responses and if the need arises to get one later we will.
Thanks for the tips becuase I really had no idea why I would need both or one over the other

that is a really popular booster from what i have read on the baby bargains boards and yes some ppl forego the regular high chair and just use that one
just be careful of what kind of chair you put it on - some will leave an indentation on the fabric cushions of your dining table chairs!

yeah, I think I could be happy with it for the long haul. Since most people wait until a child can sit unassisted and hold their head up a big, cushy high back isn't really necessary.
The tray is nice, but you don't *need* it - you can just push the chair up to the table when the baby is ready for table foods so I don't think the tray is meant to be used forever so it will be more tough to grow out of it. My dad has one at his house too (not for J since he's never there anything more than a short visit but for his gf's grandson and he is still using it at 18 mo (with tray) and I feel like he has always been bigger than J on the growth charts. I think you have a good plan - try it out and then decide if you want something else.
We have the one you linked and we keep it at the ILs. It's small and travels well too. I would keep it in addition to your HC
We had one like this when my daughter was little and it's all we ever used, no "regular" high chair. We loved it! She ate with the tray on when she was quite little and then we progressed to using it without the tray and pushing her right up to the table, which was great. Really felt like she was a part of the family then!
It adjusted with her and she used this until she was 3 or 4 years old actually! A great item to hold onto when you're done with it too as it doesn't take up much space and you never know when you'll have someone else's little one over!
we actually registered for this. i like the space saving option, ease of travel, growth with age, etc. some of my gfs have it and they actually take it everywhere they go. they keep it in their car. it sounds like more gear to carry, but they seemed to love it.
my sister is giving us her old high chair too, but i'm with you. i figure when the time comes, i'll use this one and decide whether we need her high chair or not.
hawaii 10.2008 plan ;P married bio ???
oh yes I have heard this too. people leave it in the car and use it at restaurants so they don't have to worry about germy high chairs!
