Parenting after 35

health insurance VENT

OMG!!!!  As some of you know I had a miscarriage last month.  Well now the bills are rolling in and even though I have health insurance, my out of pocket costs are approaching $2000!!!!  WTF?!  Thankfully we will be able to pay it even though it hurts.  But it makes me think, no wonder people go bankrupt over medical bills.  It cost me that much to have my baby for crying out loud.  ARGH!!

  • WHAT?!

Jeez!  We've already been scared poopless by some of the bills coming in for the pregnancy and the cardiology stuff.  It's so freaky, in Quebec we paid *nothing.*  In France we would be paying *nothing.*

It's so scary...  Sorry your bill is so high!

  • Sorry you are going through this. I had a m/c October 2009 and my out-of-pocket was around 600. 2K seems too much. Why is this?  Does your provider not participate in you plan?

  • Actually $2,000 isn't bad, I spent more than that on my dogs last year!  DH and I have health insurance too but our co-pay was over $8,000K...

I think the reason that its so much is that I had to go in through the ER - the clinic would not take me directly.  Super frustrating, because I am not one to just run to the ER since I know its always busy and more expensive (and I don't want to take those resources from other people!) but this time I had no choice given the circumstances.

  • I'm so sorry. Not that anyone likes to pay bills, but not nice to be getting bills as a reminder of such a sad time. Hugs honey.

Ok, that explains. My OB did my d&c once she realized I was having a m/c. Did your OB send you to the ER? That's weird. If she couldn't do d&c, she should have referred you to another OB on call who is covering for her at the time. You are their patient. I don't know why they didn't take you directly. I would complain.
