Spinning

I have seen plenty of pregnant women in my spin classes but I haven't been able to spin for a little over a week because I have had a head cold. I am 4weeks along and was told that if you were doing it before your were pregnant it is safe to continue. Do you think taking 1-2 weeks off from spinning is too long for me to go back? I have been trying to walk in the mean time to get some activity.

Re: Spinning

  • I think you should be fine.  I go a few weeks at a time without taking a spin class but then I'll up and take one on Saturday morning.  It's not a problem.

  • I didn't doing any exercise (besides the elliptical and light weights) for 3 weeks before conception through  6weeks of my pregnancy due to Dr's orders and I have no problem adjusting back into spinning and aerobics classes (at 6 weeks) and running (at 10 weeks).

Just listen to your body and go slowly at first if needed.

    Congrats and Good Luck!

  • You should be fine.  I started spinning when I was pg.  I had never done it before but was in good physical shape.  I needed another form of cardio since I couldn't run as much as I did pre-preg.

Take it slow and you should be ok.

  • You should be fine as long as you can watch your heart rate. At that early in your pregnancy, they say not to get it up over 140. Make sure to listen to your body! That is the key all the way through your pregnancy. There will be days that your body says to back off, you need to listen to it.

  • You should be fine.  Just make your first class a little easier on yourself, don't push as hard as the instructor says if need be and take breaks if you need to as well.  I'm a spin instructor and taught till 1 month before my delivery with baby #2.  I attended spin class the day before I delivered baby #1.  I found it to be a great exercise while pg.  I also ran and swam, but spinning made me feel good because less impact on joints than running and got my hr up enough to make me feel like a great workout.
  • I'm 30 weeks and still spinning 2-3 times per week.  It's my favorite workout because of the ability to adjust tension, speed, intensity so easily and with no impact.  There were times during my first tri when I would miss a few weeks at a time due to travel or morning sickness, but I just took it easy when coming back.
  • You should be fine. When running became too uncomfortable for me (at 29 weeks) I started spinning up until the day I delivered. Have a great pregnancy!
  • No, you're fine. I did spinning until late in the third trimester, when it was no longer comfortable to sit on a bike.
